Thanks for the video! And the little bit of humor along the way! I'm in the process of planning to build my own cedar bench and definitely will apply your applications. Turned out beautiful! I already made a small bench for changing shoes in the house with cedar so looking forward to building one with a back for the patio out back! Thanks again!👍

thanks for posting, I am so excited to sand each side of all four of my slabs today.... kidding. I had such a hard time finding plans for this style bench and found your video.

I've been cutting many cedar trees on my farm to thin them out. Have several large logs trying to figure out which style of outdoor bench to build. Think I'll follow your idea. Thanks for an excellent, informative video.

That is fantastic! Red cedar is probably my favorite wood to work with just because of the squirrely grain and the absolutely gorgeous colors. Side note, the clear General Finish is EXACTLY what I've used (and will use) on all my red cedar projects for exactly the reasons you mentioned. Keep up the good work!

Thank you! It’s been out in the elements for about two months now and the finish is still like the day I applied it. Great product for sure. I’m sure you agree with me it never gets old seeing the finish go on the first time and having those colors pop.

Wow, great video, basically perfect video for what I need to do. Glad I procrastinated long enough with my material, as I've had it for nearly four years. Now I have a video with specific instructions to follow. Some others have mentioned additional support, but it seems like you've used it enough to demonstrate longevity. What was the degree angle you used and did you say you'd recommending tilting it back a little more? I have a bunch of 2" slabs I can work with, I like the idea with the pocket holes, I was gonna use lag bolts and such, but this method should be superior to what I was gonna do. Again, great video, I intend to search the products you recommend and basically follow your exact steps.

Great video! Question, would this oil be a good choice for an outdoor bar top for my BBQ area? I'm using a slab for the bar top. Thx!

Loved the video. How much epoxy did u use on each side of the legs?

Thank you for the video. I thought you might need some angle braces, under the seat attached to legs, to provide lateral stiffness? Did you consider adding braces?

I never considered it since the spread between the legs is pretty short. I’ve been using the bench ever since publishing the video and have had no issues. When sitting, especially adults, you generally have some weight at least partially over one leg. I even ended up not bringing it in for the last winter and it held up well, aside from color fade but that was easy to resolve with a fresh coat of oil.

Wait so you filled voids and what not with epoxy then flipped the legs upside-down and filled voids and cracks with putty then put epoxy on top? Why? You already had the epoxy out it would have been better for filling the cracks and wouldn't have looked so bad at the end. Also pro tip use Tyvec tape or silicon not wood putty to keep your epoxy form going everywhere....admit it you had a leak didn't you? Trust me the tape and silicon are cheap and we've all tried to Mcgiver a project using what we have that might work but even a small leak will cause a headache when it comes to epoxy
