Do you know why most of us are interested in „accent“? Honestly speaking, we want to sound „posh“, aristocratic or like in British Parliament. Do you remember the debates about brexit? „Order! Oooorder“. That rings in everybody‘s ears. Or the Lady of X talking to Lord Y in a play by Oscar Wilde. By the way- An englishman once told me, that the best English is spoken by - the Canadians !
