In this video, I give you the good and bad associated with live fish food! There are many benefits to feeding and culturing live foods, but there is also many cons.
The Pros and Cons listed in this video are:
Pros:
- Highly nutritious
- Lasts longer in the aquarium
- Fish always eat it
- You can gut-load some live foods
Cons:
- Can be more expensive
- Takes more time
- Can lead to disease transmissions
- Can't store for long

Hey, just wanted to say that with your help, i rescued my brothers bristlenose and lemon tetra from a 10 gallon and have moved them into a river themed 30 gallon tank, they are much happier, thanks to your amazing videos ive managed to give these fish a better life :)

What's really cool about blackworms is that if you have the right substrate, they can get down into that and hide there most of the time, only occasionally poking out a little; this is a fantastic arrangement to encourage the fish's natural foraging behavior.

I started a moina culture outside, so far so good and I was able to harvest my first net full for my ember tetras and medaka rice fish. Watching them hunt is fun.

Great video and totally agree with all that you've said 👍. The biggest concern for me is the transfer of pathogens from live food to the fish, but as you mention, brine shrimp don't have that issue. I don't tend to keep live foods longer than 4 days in the fridge, just not worth the risk to your fish after that.

Blake Howden I’ve had the same vinegar eel culture going for over two years. About every three or four months I take a clean bottle, add fresh apple pieces and pour the culture over it.
