I just visited the battlefield today, traveling many hours, a last night hotel, and a long drive home. On 7/11 this Monday, the visitors center was closed. I found your video SPECTACULAR. I could walk at the sand pace, easily pick out tree landmarks, and had you as my virtual guide. An iPhone and KZfaq saved the day. This made my trip nothing less than inspirational. Thank you so much for this effort. I will never forget it.

I would love to visit this site. My ancestor lived near there. He was an old man at the time.

Good presentation. Visited the Cowpens by chance back in 2010 as I was on my way to see my brother who lived nearby. Being that I was familiar with the battle, but am by no means an expert, I wish a ranger was there at the time. Hopefully, I will get to see it again sometime.

On January 17, 1981, The First Maryland Regiment, under the command of Colonel William Brown, were allowed to reenact the Battle of Cowpens on this very field in this iBicentennial Year. Our opponents were the 43 Regiment of Foot, British Army.🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧

I have visited that field since I was a kid in the 70's . My Grandfather only lived a stone's throw from there and he would take me there quite often, long before all that you see in this video. The Star Fort at Ninety-Six is nearby as well. Great area for history. My Grandpa and Grandma were very proud of their S.C. history.

Lol When i first wet to Cowpens in the mid 90s there was nothig there but a historical marker in an empty field off the side of I85... It hadnt even been mowed in quite some time... And, this battle was 2 months after The Battle of Kings Mt. The loyalist had already been discouraged, and had quit the British... With good reason. ESTIMATED CASUALTIES @ KINGS MOUNTAIN were; 1,108 AMERICAN 90 BRITISH, (almost all colonial loyalist) 1,018 This guy is telling a national Battlefield Commission, revisionist history...

4 times in history was their a double envelopment. Out fore fathers did this. Our history!

On May 29, 1780, the treatment of Patriot prisoners by British Colonel Banastre Tarleton and his Loyalist troops leads to the coining of a phrase that comes to define British brutality for the rest of the War for Independence: “Tarleton’s Quarter.” After the surrender of Charleston on May 12, the 3rd Virginia, commanded by Colonel Abraham Buford, was virtually the only organized Patriot formation remaining in South Carolina; British Colonel Banastre Tarleton had been given the mission to destroy any colonial resistance in the state. At Waxhaws on the North Carolina border, a cavalry charge by Tarleton’s men broke the 350 remaining Patriots under Buford. Tarleton and his Tories proceeded to shoot at the Patriots after their surrender, a move that spawned the term “Tarleton’s Quarter,” which in the eyes of the Patriots meant a brutal death at the hands of a cowardly foe. Tarleton used the same SS atrocities at the Battle of Camden. It was the last victory the British would enjoy in the South. He would suffer a crushing defeat at Cowpens, and Ferguson at Kings Mt. ESTIMATED CASUALTIES at Kings Mt on Oct 7, 1780; 1,108 AMERICAN 90 BRITISH 1,018 The Continentals lost 113 men and 203 were captured in the Battle of Waxhaws; British losses totaled 19 men and 31 horses killed or wounded. Although they were routed, the loss became a propaganda victory for the Continentals: wavering Carolina civilians terrified of Tarleton and their Loyalist neighbors were now prepared to rally to the Patriot cause. Under the leadership of Thomas Sumter, the Patriot militia quickly returned the terror in kind with their own brutal raids on Carolina loyalists. Carolinians went on to fight a bloody civil war in which they killed their own with far greater efficacy than any outsider sent to assist them.
