Prince Joachim had no real choice during this specific part of the transition! The 6 Royals invited to our Parliament on that day were the individuals, who can stand in as Ceremonial Head of State, if the King himself is "out of town" for whatever reason. King Frederik, Queen Mary, Crown Prince Christian, Queen Margrethe, Prince Joachim and Princess Benedicte all has that responsibility. Prince Joachim gets a "salary" ( apanage ) from the Danish State worth almost 50.000 dollars every single month for his Royal Duties. That apanage is decided by the politicians, so he better be there, when the Parliament invites him! On a sidenote Joachim has been with his brother voluntarily more than once since the "Palace Intrigue".

Theoretically, he still must bow to his grandmother as she is senior to him both in title and style. While he is a prince and Royal Highness, she remains Queen and Majesty. So he still has to bow to her. Only now he has to bow to his parents, too.

Last time a "proper" crowning took place (like the one seen in the UK) was prior to the Danish monarch having absolute power, because during that period the successor became king at the very instant the old one died. There was a ceremony (a coronation of sort) where the new king himself put the crown on his own head, but that was merely for show, since the crown was inherited directly from god. Not sure if that counts as a true "Coronation".

A title as "Queen Mother" would simply sound silly in Danish!! Margrethe is NOT the mother of the Queen. Her Title will simply remain to be Queen.

Because as I understood the explanation last week Margrethe is still a Queen, she will keep the title, she's just no longer the Monarch and will not perform those duties. Mary is Queen Consort. I think the only Crown Prince left is Harkon (sp) of Norway.

SF ), who was "escorting" Queen Margrethe both INTO the Parliament, and then also later out of the Parliament, is known to be a "republican" on principle. The Members of the even more left leaning Party "Enhedslisten", for the first time ever, got on their feet, when the Royals entered the balkony. In Denmark the new king/queen are signed the acceptance to be the monarch in the parliament, the prime Minister goes and pronounce it on the parliament balcony to the people . The only thing in this case is that queen Margaret was signed the abdication first . The only time the coronation crowns are I use , is when the regents dies, then is placed on the coffin from day 1 to the funeral. I know in England there is the hole coronation thing , but in the end the ending is the same .

No he of course and OBVIOUSLY will not!! That would be stupid to do! Queen Margrethe took it upon herself to do that, even if it hurt the feelings of Prince Joachim, her own son! It was to streamline the Royal Family, so only the ones closest to the Throne get to keep the relevant Titles. The children of Joachim are 6th to 9th in line, so they will NEVER inherit the Throne anyway! The Monarchy would lose its popularity, if too many Royals get to keep useless Titles in modern times.

Just in here to add a few "popularity-numbers" to show, how the Danes look at this! Prince Joachim has the by far lowest numbers; 43% approval / Benedikte has 53% / Marie 54% / Christian in his first survey ever 74% / Margrethe 84% / Frederik 84% and Mary 85% approval ( Epinion 3% margin of error / dec 2023 ). In 1972, when Margrethe took over "Monarchy" had 42% support. Now it has 70% support, and 17% wants to abolish Monarchy. So the support in modern times obviously depends a lot on the popularity of the individual Royals. Princed Joachim lost a lot of sympathy, when he and Marie deserted Sønderjylland ( border region to Germany ) for the big city life. ( Now in Washington DC ).
