Got some cool news about an update to my rig. The MIDI Clock pedal I was using has now been replaced by a pedal of my own design: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oraHgLGqsrebk4E.html

wow. this is just...so far above my level of technical knowhow. really explains how you get the sound quality you do (sansamp AFTER Bass9. genius.). entertaining video too! i'm only up to the guitar signal so far but this is all gold, can't wait to watch the rest

Dude, come on! LOL Everyone should see your videos. You have quite the command over some pretty technical pieces. Granted, the sansamp after the Bass9 WAS a pretty good touch though. :-) A personal fav and so simple. Was that a Bass9 I saw on your board in The Sky Is A Neighborhood?

This is definitely the most comprehensive loop station pedal set up I’ve seen. I also use a pre and post double loop station set up but I’ve never seen anyone else use it. The fact that you’ve combined that with various midi capable pedals. I also have the Aeros as my master looper and RC-500 as my input looper. I use Blackbox or Electribe as my drum machine. Great Set up! You put a lot of worthwhile time into this.

Dude, this is insanely great. You've got some of the ingredients of my dream looper rig. It's good to hear that the Bass9 does the job well. And you've got not only one, but two discontinued Source Audio Reflexes? Damn, now I'm jealous. Keep on rockin'!
@jmkmusicpedals
@jmkmusicpedals 3 жыл бұрын
Bass9 is really, really good. Or at least a couple of the settings are. I had one Reflex and read they were being discontinued and I immediately bought a second as backup. Now I use both. LOL. It would suck not to have at least one of those. I could get by with other expression pedals hooked up to the MIDI controllers, but these are so much more convenient and flexible. I'm hoping they'll make a comeback some day. I think they may have just been a little before their time.

my mind is blown, probably somewhat like your bank account!! I think il stick to my bias fx and have all of these type things digitally. My signal chain can be as complex as this but with only a Melo audio tone shifter and an aeros loop studio. Probably won't sound as good but close enough for me. That guitar to bass pedal does sound very tempting however. Keep rocking bro! love the weird timing riffs

Joe, really enjoyed your video and being enlightened on some pedals I’m not familiar with. I just finished my live rig (for a gig I have booked one month from now) and was surfing to see how mine differs from others doing the solo/live/looping so I really appreciate your openness to sharing here. I have been playing live for 30+ years now and one thing I would urge you to do (in a live situation, studio is completely different) is simplify this set up as best you can if you are taking it out to perform. I say this because: a) we are not musicians, we are movers and hauling this much gear around (walking through a crowd, up/down stairs while double parked) will be difficult; b) trouble shooting a loose cord or malfunctioning piece of gear in a live situation will be extremely difficult; c) setting this up and tearing down quickly (say you are the 3rd performer that night and have 5 minutes to get on stage and set up) will be very challenging. Sorry to sound preachy here but I have had everything from sound men intentionally sabotaging me to amps blowing up and the power swinging wildly from 80 to 130 volts (which turned off all my effects mid song) happen playing live. A big part of my live rig is anticipating what can go wrong and simplifying to avoid that. Good luck to you, you’re definitely creating some unique sounds and pushing the envelope here.

Thanks for the great video. If we ever get to perform live and in person again, you'd need a roadie to cart and set it all up 😄. That's a lot of nicer gear.
@jmkmusicpedals
@jmkmusicpedals 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. If I ever do this kind of thing live, I really doubt it'll be this rig. It's too much, even a gear maniac like me knows that. I already hit my limit with a rig about half this size last time around. I do like how it sounds in my completed recordings though; no post production work required at all except the usual mastering touches.

I must admit that I had been very curious what all those buttons do. Very informative video explaining it all, excellent work. What I would like to hear next is; does it take you longer to compose and memories the parts, or to program all the sound changes and remember which button to press next? I'm looking forward to your next composition.
@jmkmusicpedals
@jmkmusicpedals 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Good question. Composing is definitely the more intuitive part of the process while programming can be a bit frustrating at times. The act of doing both of them are kind of intertwined, so they pretty much start and complete at the same time. The memorization isn't too bad ... but there is always that one spot in every song with the current incarnation where I have to twist around and perform a couple actions really fast, that's always the toughest.

@jmkmusicpedals
@jmkmusicpedals 3 жыл бұрын
Like me, I think you are going to need to have your MIDI controller and the Aeros next to each other and rely on both. The MIDI implementation in Aeros will allow you to record and jump to Parts with 1 touch, which is the main benefit, but it's missing a few obvious things like "Play" when you just want to end your recording and have it exit record mode and simply play over the part you just finished. That's when having the Aeros next to you becomes important. The combinations of using both a MIDI Controller and the switches on the Aeros are necessary right now. Check the docs available on Singular Sounds website, it lists all of the MIDI commands it has so far. I won't sugarcoat it, this is the weakest point for me currently, but work on the MIDI implementation happens with each iteration of the software and they are planning a more complete implementation within the next 2 release cycles on the forum. Honestly, besides some criticism that the MIDI could be improved, the unit itself is the most flexible hardware based controller I've used to date for layering tracks and organizing song parts. I couldn't do what I'm doing with just the other loopers that I own. If you do decide to purchase, you can save 10% with 'jking10' at check out on their site. That code should be valid right now and anyone can use it.

@@jmkmusicpedals great response, thank you bud.. had to filter youtube search to even find this looper in action outside of use with the beat buddy and/or midi maestro. I play with 2 boss rc300s and as fun as that can be I'm dying for a smaller footprint because I also play with a fullsize 16-pedal board already. I really like overdub>replace mode on the boss and some other quirks but still considering this one, thanks again.
