It's been a while in coming but I am finally back on the live match trail with a nice Sunday open at Shearsby Valley Lakes!
I have been fortunate to work in the angling trade for over a decade now and started working on Match Fishing Magazine in 2010. This eventually lead to becoming the Editor of the magazine. This was a fantastic stage of life and I got to work with and learn from the very best match anglers around. Anglers such as Steve Ringer, Alan Scotthorne, Will Raison, Lee Kerry, Bob Nudd, Rob Wootton and many many more!
My next role and current occupation is working as a videographer for tackle giant PRESTON INNOVATIONS & SONUBAITS!
This has been a revelation in my life and I now not only get to film with Des Shipp, Andy Findlay, Andy Power, Michael Buchwalder, Lee Kerry to name just a few! But I also get to work on the product development side of things. This means working closely with the product development team the help give constructive input into some amazing products!
My primary focus with the channel is to produce light-hearted and informative fishing videos that give you some genuine advice to help you catch more fish. Match fishing and match fishing techniques are the main focus but more recently I’ve also been enjoying some tremendous river fishing for specimen sized chub and perch!
This wide range of fishing techniques and styles mean there really is something for everyone to enjoy on my channel :)

Great to watch, Joe. At 70 I’m just too old to adapt and copy. It’s a young mans game, lol. I’ll have to stick to what I know and do best and pick my venues carefully or I’ll be getting clattered every match. Just wish you had come along 20 years sooner, lol 😆

Quick tip / suggestion - add your rigs to your topkits, but instead of adding the hooklength before arriving at the venue, try connecting the loop to your rig hook-up with a small paper-clip, opened to create an s-shape. You could do this with a heavy gauge staple that has been through the staple gun if you wanted to aatach the rig to the bottom of the section (joint) on your topkit. You're welcome.

Very good watch. The practice and thought you give to rigs, feeding, baits consistency, positioning of everything to hand, elastics and tensions makes it look very easy, which it’s not!

Awsome vlog joe loved it……. The short kit idea and the way you don’t break down has definitely got my attention. We normally fish waters with big carp but next week’s foray is at lindholme so I think a few tweaks are in order!!!!!! You make it look easy pal keep it up 👍

It's worth saying that they are at their best when the fish are all a similar size. If you are catching mixed sizes of f1s and a few carp I'd stick with a normal f1 kit 👍

Anyone who wants to win in open matches on a regular basis needs to watch this top flight match angler his preparation and how he makes it look easy and ask yourself are you at this level or at least nearly there I bloody know iam not.

Simpy brilliant Joe; loved the format and pleassssse do more of the same !!; so interesting with your thoughts pre amd the post match which is seldom shown in these types of vids; and learnt loads. Off tomorrow to get a Seperium pole and try fishing with a no: 2 section; just didn't look right but then again I guess we all can get 'blinkered' wih shipping down. Well done for 'thinking outside of the box' Any chance of Preston adding the 'chinese' pole float to their existing range (or you bringing out your own range ?) Tight ines

You've got me excited now mate 😂just started pole fishing and won my first match at Shearsby with Only 80lb and some change whilst fishing down the margin. Though that was decent but in hindsight its f all. Got a match on tornado soon so cant wait to have a bash. Cheers 👍🏼

Excellent format this is. Really helpful to understand the thinking before match day. Just a couple of suggestions: camera on other side too - Jon Arthur uses a GoPro body cam to really good effect. Also maybe a few more close-ups of the rigs & baits

Great video Joe and another good win so well done mate... I fish Forest Lane Arena quite a bit and was winning a few matches on Paste until Tiddy (Paste Daddy) and Phill Sellers turned up :) Last 3 matches there I've had 188lb, 207lb and 254lb (270 Carp) but I've been missing too many bites and I've not been getting as many bonus fish as you need to average 1lb per fish. Tried a few thing on the short/ margin line, missed bites galore until I added a a no1 backshot 6" above the float. I ignore my float now as it spends most of its time under the water anyway and I wait for the shot to move upwards as the line tightens. I only sussed it the last match but I'm back there this Sunday so fingers crossed.

@@MatchFishingFilms Tried fishing Paste up in the water on Sunday just as you described. Soon realised that my dacron was too long and I needed to shorten my loop. I'd fed slop for 3 hours with the intention of bagging in the last 2 hours. At 14:15 the weather changed and after a lone gust of wind the entire Lake switched off? The margins went clear and the fish just vanished. I'm at Sykehouse this week so I'll see what happens when I try again :)

I think the micro paste would still work. But I would be tempted to fish micros and expanders in the edge and possibly maggots on the bar
