One of the best lyrics ever, I loved this tune back in the mid 90's: Heard a lot of talk about this Jesus A man of love, and a man of strength But what a man was two thousand years ago means nothing at all to me today He could have been telling me about my higher self But he only lives inside my prayer So what he was may have been beautiful But the pain is right now And right here

At the time of this video, I was approx the same age as the band and could relate to the entire song. Knowing Ed has embraced Christianity makes it more relevant. Oddly, I find myself questioning my questioning from back then. I hope that Ed found peace. 20 years ago is a long time, enough for the anger to settle.

I find this funny. If you listen to the actual lyrics, he is saying "I heard a lot of about my spirit, I've heard a lot of talk about my soul, but i decided that anxiety and pain were better firends, so I let it go" ..."let's get it back together" . The song is called OPERATION SPIRIT He is talking about getting your SPIRITUALIY and soul back. When he says the line about "what a man was 100 years ago means nothing at all to me today" ..He is talking about spiritual ignorance.
@angrami

antixtheeloquator I guess I agree with you, in our consciousness we only hear the part "But when a Man walks 2000 years ago..." so I guess it makes sense the message of the song is quite different than what we all have understood. BTW Great Album !!

Ed Kowalczyk's a Christian now. : / Apparently, he grew up on it, ditched it, went on some spiritual journey all throughout his career in Live, and has come back full circle. I'm not making this up. Google it. "Ed Kowalczyk religion.blogs" ...Came as quite a shock to me.

Yeah lots of bands change. Rush in my opinion is the greatest rock band in history, and they've changed drastically many times over the course of their 35 year history, and are still putting albums out that are quality. But most bands fall apart when they try to change too much. Ed started writing the songs alone without the band and thats when they started to nose dive. They're gone now but I do believe his shift to Christianity really sucked the life out of the band.

you may have a point here!you´re right they somehow lost their "anger and edge" like you said it!nevertheless Live will always be my favourite band.Bands often change their type of music during time.what you described,i experienced with Linkin Park.i liked their hard,edged, somehow violent style, with fast music and ciritical lyrics. today their type of music turned too soft I think.ok the comparison Live and Linkin Park is maybe not the best, but i just wanted to say that I know what you mean:)

@vingable The issue that fans have with it is it ruined what they loved about LIVE. Nothing wrong with picking a side or finding something to believe in personally, but the simple fact is that it ruined what people loved about this band. They turned to total garbage after the Distance album, once Ed started getting all preachy, and the band fell apart and broke up over it.

All I can see from what I have read so far is--in my humble opinion-- nobody can get who Jesus really is . Even many who consider themselves christians can't pin it down - and that is the saddest part of all!! I hope This guy Ed becomes an imitator of Christ by the book, unlike so many who state being born again and all they got was a dip under the 3 titles in a freezing pool and no holy spirit fire. Acts 2:38 all the way!! All the others can do as they so well please. Enough said.
@xproudfoot1
@xproudfoot1 13 жыл бұрын
why should what anyone else chooses to believe or not believe hurt anyone else? Are you that insecure in your own beliefs/disbeliefs? This is the very foundation of intolerance. Oh, and I don't care what Krisnamurti said. He's just another man who lived, not an authority on all lives in all times. You cite him as if he was the religious authority, which contradicts your own argument. Shame on all this nonsense over another man's choice of religious sentiments.
