This is a perfect example of proactive policing. The guy was stubborn in the beginning and had an attitude with the officer. Yet the officer remained cool and reiterated that he's trying to help the guy. Then he finds the drugs and still attempts to help him. Of all of the departments they cover on Live PD, I think I'm most impressed with Lake County IL PD. Not just this officer, but all of their officers have a great mentality and aren't just out to get people. They're a shining example of what police should all be. Much respect to everyone at that department. Take notes officers that aren't this way.

@@Kingharrison02 I think he's probably just well trained and understands that treatment is more beneficial than being in jail or prison. The guy literally asked for help first. The officer took that as a signal. It's just good policing and the best option in a situation like this. It's pretty clear that the Lake County PD is well trained. All of their officers on live PD are shining examples of proactive policing and serving and protecting. Not just enforcing and charging people like some officers with bad attitudes and a God complex. Every community would be better off with a department like Lake County.

This is the nicest cop I've ever seen tbh. This almost made me cry. A lot of officers are like "you need help but I can't let you off with a ticket." Or they're like "yeah I'll work with you," and then they proceed to arrest despite what they said. I get sometimes an arrest needs to take place, but I think it happens more often than it should. I have a lot of family members from the time I was really little abuse opiates. I remember being told to not accompany my dad to the door and I'd hear pills. Kids notice everything. This really warmed my heart. I really hope he did get help and that the prosecutor went east on him. ❤

Allison Linner The only problem with more cops doing this, is people will catch on. The ones doing these activities will say, “hey man. I know I’ve been messing up I need help.” Get out of a few tickets tell their girlfriend/boyfriend then go home and potentially do more of whatever it was they were doing. I do understand what you mean, this officer was great and he did seem to care. Point is, people will take advantage of an officers kindness as I’m sure it happens all the time.

After pulling me over, he listed my infractions: 1. Cracked windshield 2. Speed 70 possibly 72 when the limit is 65. 3. Illegal front window tint 4. Cut two cars 5. Lane change without signal. After checking my license, registration, and insurance, he let me go. He didn't even write up warning or nothing. Just said replace the windshield and take off the tint. That was the best cop!!!!!

This is how every drug possession charge should be like. A+ police work. I spent 4 years in prison for about the same amount of drugs and also asked for help but got a intent to distribute and sent up state in 2002. They really arent. I was 20. 17 days away from my birthday and got stopped after I parked crappily at 2am at a grocery store. I'd had a IPA with my dad 4 hours earlier. He gave me the keys knowing I was sober. Blew a .03 but was under 21 so that's illegal. They searched the whole car and found a old drug baggie in the far back of the car stuffed into the far back seats with a residue of cocaine. I dont like cocaine nor could have possibly put it there since I'm always driving. Likely left by either one of my friends or one of the guys my dad drives home from the bar. Hit with dui and felony possession. Served 1 month in jail and license was revoked. Cost me 6 grand in court fees but I managed to get the felony dropped to a solicitation. Ruined my job as I was a pharm tech and had spent 2 years working towards my PharmD. Dont tell me most cops are like this. I was polite and honest the whole time. He got angry when I refused to take credit for drugs that werent mine and told him I couldnt find him anymore or work with their task force.

I listened to an interview with a highly decorated navy seal who recently retired on leadership. He was a career seal and commanded seal teams. The one thing that has stuck out in his mind and continues to drive him is a phone call when he was in high school. He was on the track team, a long distance runner. Football was king in his town and nobody paid any attention to him or track. He broke the mile record and the head football coach called his house that night to congratulate him and told him how proud he was that he represented the school so well. He said it takes one instance to turn a life around or to inspire someone. That phone call helped him get through seal training and his career in the military, he never forgot how it made him feel. Sometimes its these little situations that this cop may walk away and forget about in a few days or weeks. But could have changed this man's life and potentially his baby's life for the better.

I did 33 years in law enforcement. I was lied to far more than told the truth. This Officer did what I would have done. Some times we have no choice, some time we have discretion or "wiggle room" to work with. IF a person is willing to get help, THAT is the biggest point, far too many don't care and will continue to drink, drug whatever. If it can be stopped early there is a greater chance for help to work but they MUST work at it. Addiction is an angry beast with no mercy. It can be overcome, I have seen success but it is a long and hard road. I hope this guy makes it and he can one day at a time, one minute at a time if needed.
