I like this tutorial because you're not using conventional methods of performing a live set. And I think it is awesome to know more than one way of doing that.

Unfortunately there is not so many videos on how to prepare live sets on youtube and a lot of them are pretty dumb tbh. This one was great, thank you for this!

This is excellent! The Instrument Track routing, to be able to easily switch between instruments during live performance without having to have like 30 separate tracks, was essentially the most important thing I was looking for! Super helpful.

Thanks for this video man. after 9 years of production I had my first show and it was awesome, I too, didn't really play a lot of instruments, but after what you said at the end of the video, I felt less guilty. Subbed to your channel and followed on spotify. Keep up the tunes man

Hi Cella. Great video! You confirmed some of the concepts I already use and inspired more to try out. I played my first couple of (very small) shows after covid and can relate so much to what you say, especially at the end of the video. Greetings from Hamburg and thanks a lot for sharing 🙏💜 PS: since Ableton 12 the way to apply a tempo to scenes has changed. Now you have to select the master track, highlight the desired scene and edit the tempo it in the section below (similar to clip settings) Took me a while to figure this out. Maybe helpful for someone :)

I've never seen the instrument rack for multiple tracks approach before and it is genius. Thank you very much for sharing that!! But I also wonder if EQ, compression, and general processing must be the same for all the instruments within the rack?
@Cellaofficial
@Cellaofficial 7 ай бұрын
You can always place individual processing effects on each instrument chain inside the instrument rack. But sidechain for example i would suggest to place for the whole rack. otherwise it gets a bit to complicated! 🙂

@alexmacfarlane994

Hey Cella, this is extremely helpful thank you! I'm wondering, when using the instrument chain with an external controller, how would I go about filtering CC's sent from a knob or slider on my controller to only effect the active instrument in the chain, rather than all subsequent instruments in the chain? I've seen older versions of ableton seem to have a "filter midi ctrl" setting within the chains function, but I've had no luck finding similar in the latest version! Thanks again.
@Cellaofficial
@Cellaofficial Жыл бұрын
as far as i know its not possible to filter the cc control mapping. i usualy effect all the instruments with the knob, but since only the selected one is audible, it should not matter that much :) besides: most of the effects i control are mapped to a effect rack on my master chain or the whole synth chain, so the mappings dont really interfere with each other. because i've got enough buttons on my mpd. hope this helps!

I love your video and thanks a lot to u for ur all efforts. Appreciate it. And I think doing live performance can not be taught. You need to come up with your own set ups and layout. It must be unique. It can be the same or have similar set up or layouts with some of us. But I think to get a pure live performance from one, one must be come out with his own built from scratch set up.

yes totally agree! it's nice to have a starting point but ultimately the fun starts when you are building your own setup 😎

how to sync midi send video for other computer? pleas
@Cellaofficial
@Cellaofficial Жыл бұрын
you can try using a midi interface on both computers and connect them by midi (thats what i did). But if you keep your Live file at very low CPU Usage (dont put in cpu hungry vst instruments) you'll be able to play video-visuals from the same laptop!

I bought the same midi keyboard. but the lights of the left (play, loop, etc.) keys do not turn on. and I could never get those keys to work. I wonder if I have to do something to make it work or is my keyboard faulty? I will be glad if you can provide information.

yup, good catch, thats because i used to include vst's from arturia and and u-he etc. which are very cpu hungry. what i do nowadays ist stem out all the sounds that i need from a vst, and just put them in a sampler and assign the keys :) that way you can save a ton of cpu! ✌
