Russia's President Vladimir Putin dialled South African President Cyril Ramaphosa as he gears up for his swearing-in ceremony in Pretoria. During the call, the two leaders vowed to strengthen the partnership between Russia and South Africa in all aspects. The conversation reflects on the continued good relations between Moscow and Pretoria despite uncertainty over Russia's war in Ukraine. South Africa abstained in several votes at the UN General Assembly condemning Russia's actions. It even attended the Ukraine Peace Summit hosted by Switzerland. And while the war in Gaza rages, South Africa took Israel to the International Court of Justice accusing it of genocide. Earlier this year, Ramaphosa hosted the leader of Sudan's paramilitary RSF, which has been accused of human rights violations.
