I don't understand how modern drivers can use the run-off areas to defend their positions just like the KTM #15 driver did at 26:58. It's really unfair and I think there should be sand traps just after the curbs, to avoid such maneuvers. This track is 13 meters wide but you can see the cars spending most of the time on the curbs and astroturf and run-off areas. Terrible!😟

Too be fair I feel like most tracks were designed when cars weren’t even a tenth of capable as they are now.. with the short braking distances and agility of current cars, they need more space to defend.. otherwise it would just be overtake after overtake

@@Griffin283 Well, you are right but Valencia was designed in 1999, not really an old track. At Spa, an old track, everybody cut the lines at the Raidillon, Pouhon or Blanchimont. I watched a video of the Spa FIA-GT 1997 race and there was no problem because there were no run-off areas after the curbs. And if you watched the Goodwood Revival last week-end, you could see that the only two sectors where the drivers tooks the maximum risks were those where there are wide run-off areas (Madgwick and Woodcote corners). Motorsport is dangerous and there should be dangers when you take too much risks. I am not a racing driver but that's what a french driver, Xavier Pompidou, said on TV back in 2005 during the LMS event at Istanbul, watching the drivers brake at the very limit or trying to take the curves flat out, knowing there was no risk at all if it went wrong (and have a look at the Paul Ricard track also!). The only track where you can still see old school racing is the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the greatest track of the world.

@@denisgicquel6454 24 years in racing advancement is a MASSIVE change. Look how small F1 cars used to be.. now they’re much bigger and much more capable

@@Griffin283 Yes, but motorsport is not just F1. The FIA-GT cars of the end of the 90's were way more efficient than the current GT cars but stayed on the track. Have a look at the 1997 FIA GT Championship - Rd 5 Spa video on YT (I don't think I can post the link) and you will understand what I mean. Just put back some grass, sand and gravel outside the curbs and there won't be any problem anymore.

@@denisgicquel6454 the GT cars from the 90’s weren’t half as capable as current cars.. the aero advancement alone makes it 10x harder to pass. Throw in modern BoP too..
