It's actually not a membrane keyboard at all! It's a rubber dome switch over a capacitive PCB. Easy mistake to make, but a lot of people assume rubber dome and membrane are interchangeable.
@sumkid92632 жыл бұрын
I can honestly see why, its because the typing feel between them is still rubbery, but the whole mechanism is obviously different.

The longer you type on it the more you love it. Unfortunately there are still no iso layouts.

Leopold is the best out of the box Topre experience, I own a HHKB, HHKB type S and Leopold Silent. The Leopold Silent sounds and feels the best. And them being way cheaper too you can't go wrong with them, they remain value and are the best pre-build boards quality you can find, also the key caps.

my reaction to the niz plum switches also. just a joy to type on, maybe not for gaming but for coding and writing, super flowy feeling.
@mathisetc2 жыл бұрын
Yes 100%! It really is a joy, I've been using it ever since I got it. Indeed not the best for gaming, but overall a great feeling. I have a hard time describing what it feels like to people sometimes hahaha.
@stk46222 жыл бұрын
not sure why everyone says its bad for gaming, i play competitive valorant in immortal rank and tbh i perform better on my niz plum compared to my other custom mechs. Also u can set the actuation on high which makes strafing super easy and responsive

I had HHKB before, now have a niz plum, realforce R2 and leopold FC750 with cherry silent red. Among all the switches I've used in the past, I definitely like niz plum the most. It's smooth and light on touch even though it's 45g just the same as the topre ones. Topre and Leopold have better keyboard case&keycap construction but Niz wins on switch
@aygwm Жыл бұрын
I actually prefer niz to topre. Better sound and more consistent key feel

Topre feels sooo good, but sadly I'm to used to type on ortho and column staggered boards so.... And you could build a custom one, some guys did that, but that would be with NIZ switches and for me they don't feel the same like Topre once. Subscribed by the way :) my fellow Linux user.
@mathisetc2 жыл бұрын
As you can see by the ZSA Moonlander in the back, I also like an ortho keyboard. Would be sick if Leopold made one. Thanks!

Maybe you can harvest domes from a Topre board to use on a Niz PCB?

Only cons of Leopold keyboards is old micro 5pin USB connector. I'm using their mechanical keyboards as well, but every time I switch to other brand keyboards I have to switch cable too. lso, there are slight difference between original Topre keyboards and Leopold keyboards. Some of reviews in Korea figured out Leopolds make their own rubber dome. They tried to copy Topre's switches after their license was terminated but they failed to copy entire structure of it. So, Leopold decided to make their rubber dome only, not entire switch. Some say actual feeling is also difference between Leopold and Topre's Realfoce series because of the difference of rubber dome. But there's slight possibility Leopold Use original Topre's rubber dome for Us or Europe markets judging by box says made in Japan.

Did you experience any compatibility issues regarding Linux? I am guessing the configuration software requires windows to run, but did the keyboard otherwise function with Linux or does it require some proprietary (windows) driver to run?
@mathisetc2 жыл бұрын
No driver issues on Linux. The configuration uses dip switches on the underside of the board!

this is gazzew's silent tactiles
@lukevsrg31512 жыл бұрын
i have both 55g topre and u4t silents and they are completely different feeling switches, topre is a more of a smooth tactile bump throughout the entire travel distance, much firmer bottom out. boba u4t silents are much more akin to holy pandas, very sharp but round tactile bump at the top which suddenly ends and turns into a linear for the last .75-.5mm travel

The most efficient layout if you dont want fn layers and some really nice switches.

I do! I rarely play competitive games, so the relative "mushyness" of the Topre switch isn't really a noticeable downside for me

@MangoTangoFox Жыл бұрын
If it actually sounded like it does BEFORE you moved the mic closer to do a sound test, I'd really love it. The actual sound is really rattly and just sounds like everything is loose. The Niz clone of the design I think is much better sounding, like big chunks of chalk running together, deep and dry, no ticking or rattling.
@Toblehrone10 ай бұрын
The "rattle" sound is because Niz uses silencing rings in their keyboards to dampen the upstroke (the switch returning up with the slider hitting the top housing), while Topre (usually) doesn't. There *are* versions of Topre keyboards - i.e. HHKB Type S, Limited Editions of Realforce keyboards - that also have silencing rings in them. Furthermore, you can also do a mod of regular Topre switches to add aftermarket silencing rings (like Deskeys silencing rings) in order to dampen that upstroke; I've done that with my Topre keyboard and it sounds like thick, bubbling sauce in the best way possible.
