"Live steam !!!" The correct translation in English is "Model Engineering". In England most towns over 10,000 population have a Model Engineering club with tracks up to a Mile long, open to the public usually on Sundays for train rides. Indeed many of these clubs deal in more than one scale, with 5", 7.25" & 10,5" gauges being most typical. Steam Locos in these scales use coal not charcoal (which is burnt wood) to get sufficient steam pressure to be capable of hauling many adults, on little bogie cars ! At 33:42 is a typical British 5" gauge model of a British Railways 1951 designed Britannia Class 4-6-2 Pacific No 70004 correctly named "William Shakespeare". Two of this class are in real life preserved in full working order, & found running on the National network of Britain at weekends, at speeds up to 75mph (135kmph), which is the supposed limit for preserved mainline steam locos. There are in fact around 100 mainline preserved locos available, although not all at the same time, due to the requirement to have a complete general overhaul every 7 years. There are a few hundred more steam locos operating on the dozens of steam preservation railways in Britain. As Britain has become the Worldwide mecca for steam fans & tourists alike. Happy holidays !!!

Truly amazing, the number of man hours that go into building such things is frightening! The attention to detail is quite staggering!

Live steam also refers to a model powered by actual steam, and the craft of building such models is called model engineering. It's a craft I want to take part in someday

Western Maryland 4-8-4s were called "Potomacs", after the river running through their territory. "Poconos" were what the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western called their 4-8-4s, for the mountain range that is part of the eastern Appalachian chain that runs through their territory.

Great stuff. Would of loved to seen the Australian’s amongst the footage of locomotives, unless I missed them, even the Kiwis.

This is so charming. I'm happy to see so many English locos in Sweden. However, Sweden built some damn fine locos too.

Very impressive example! I notice that even when you are running at high speed, your safety valve is still trying to pop off about every 10 seconds. Do you have the straight boiler, or the one with the combustion chamber?

Excellent video, where can one get the drawings of the steam locomotive being build at the beginning? Oh yes, looks like 4 diesel fans gave it thumbs down.

So the first railway being half size of 7.25” railway must be 3.5” gauge?
