Putting well-earned money into the stock market can be over emphasized for first-time investors, unlike a bank where interest is sure thing! Well, basically times are uncertain, the market is out of control, and banks are gradually failing. I am working on a ballpark estimate of $5M for retirement, and I have a good 6-figure loaded up for this, could there be any opportunity for a boomer like me? I'm nearly 60.

It's a good idea to seek advice at the moment, unless you're an expert yourself. As someone who runs a service business and sells products on eBay, I can tell you that the economy is struggling and many people are struggling financially.

It's often true that people underestimate the importance of financial advisors until they feel the negative effects of emotional decision-making. I remember a few summers ago, after a tough divorce, when I needed a boost for my struggling business. I researched and found a licensed advisor who diligently helped grow my reserves despite inflation. Consequently, my reserves increased from $275k to around $750k.

It is not normal for the vix to be this low 12.xx…. The rate drop was very steep in short time … prices is not down…. Cost of loans to buy cars is very high … stocks and metals are very high = perfect storm

You wouldn't be calling it irresponsible if the market was down. Wise investors understand valuation. Just because someone says the market is pricey doesn't mean they are net short. Personally, on that last dip, I made a little cash on some put options I bought as a hedge. And, right now I'm riding the momentum wave up with everyone else. But, I still acknowledge that the market is 20-30% overpriced, so I'm prepared to go defensive on a moment's notice.

But, keep in mind that at some point there needs to be fundamental support under that momentum, or things can come down as quickly as they went up." -- Spot on. That's where we're at right now. Momentum is carrying the market higher, but valuation is already stretched, so at some point the music will stop and everyone will rush for the exits. Could be weeks from now, even months from now, but it's almost guaranteed to happen because the market is so overpriced already.
