“My family came to the Cane Creek Valley in the late 1930s and early ‘40s and started buying land here,” says W.B. Taylor, owner of Taylor Land & Cattle Company. “I came here in the late ‘60s. I became enamored with the Cane Creek Valley for the peace and the topography and the lifestyle. Having seen what the Cane Creek lifestyle offered my children in the way of values was something that we wanted to share.”
“When you go into one of our developments, you'll see there's just character jumping out of every angle,” says Billy Taylor, fourth generation resident. “It's not something with a cookie cutter-type philosophy. And it's very unique. I think that folks really enjoy living that type of lifestyle, having that serene beauty.”
“We have aspired to maintain the country eloquence of the Cane Creek Valley through convenance, restrictions, so that people will always feel that the Cane Creek Valley is rural farmland,” says W.B.
“The philosophy's always been don't go in and violate the natural contours, take care of what God's given us, really create more of a lifestyle than just another community,” says Billy.
“Our family has been in Cane Creek Valley about seven years,” says Alex Diez, Ashbrook resident. “We moved to the Asheville area about 20 years ago and were immediately drawn to this part of southern Buncombe County. It's just absolutely beautiful. We chose Ashbrook because of the large acreage. We actually have one of the smaller lots, which is just under three acres. We have access to a pavilion for picnics, neighborhood gatherings. There's a riding ring for folks who are really into horses. We border the creek here, where my girls spent the first four years in boots, primarily the entire day.”
“My wife and I, we've got five kids, and the first thing we started looking at are the school systems,” says Bill Scott, Bridgewater resident. “We wanted to find an area that had good school systems, but also, we wanted to have a little peace and privacy. And when we started looking in the Cane Creek Valley area, we found a neighborhood in Bridgewater that we just fell in love with it.”
“One of the things I love the most about living in the Cane Creek Valley is the convenience,” says Billy. “We get to have the advantage of living out here in a rural setting, which is what I grew up with, and really what I enjoy, how I want to raise my family. But my wife and I still like to go out to eat, or have a nice glass of wine, and we can be downtown Asheville or in South Asheville in just a few minutes. We get to take advantage every day of the mountain views, but living on a very level and gentle rolling site. I guess my favorite time of the year is the fall. In the fall, the mountains look like they've been painted with a paintbrush, something that you would take out of a store maybe in downtown Asheville and hang on the wall, but we get to live that every day.”
