I'm in my 50s, I grew up in the US during the cold war, and over the past decade I met many people from the former soviet union. My conclusion, after talking with many people and having lived this long, through the cold war like I have, and observing politics and society in the US for so many years, and then comparing that to the childhoods of people from other countries including the USSR, is this: we've been lied to. They have been lied to too, but in the US we like to imagine we always took the high moral ground, that we always had it better, and that we were always being fed the truth, that we were always right and they were always wrong. This is simply not true in every circumstance. We were given the conclusion and not the evidence. What is true, I feel now, is there is big money in perpetual conflict. That it is a great way to extract money from the working class. Keeping people afraid is keeping them controlled, and new boogie men are always being created for this reason.

To hear leaders say that at the end of the day, they may not have a solution or to say simply, "I dont know" is the most refreshing thing I've heard in a while. I was skeptical of Tucker Carlson, yet after watching the interview with Putin and now this, it seems his intention of actual journalism is pure and wholehearted. Truth needs to be told and this felt more truthful than any media output that has come out in the past decade.

I support Tuckers right to work as journalist and his right to speak his mind. He has viewpoint we need and he is not abusive or crude. Our "entrenched power" in us needs to be more tolerant. I appreciate the impulses presented here. BUT it's not this simple. For example, the reason peace talks were halted was because Russia would only accept peace if they were given a large chunk of Ukraine. That was unacceptable to most people who advocate democracy as well as peace. It was not that people WANTED WAR, they just could not accept the compromises needed. Also, if Putin says he will stop attacking, he will just find reasons to come back later for more.

I am opposed to religions running governments, or even having influence in them. I don’t care which country that is, or what religion that is. As an example, while I respect the people of Afghanistan’s choice, I feel saddened and concerned that their government is so religious. But…. Well if a Russian journalist went to interview Biden but then trash talked Putin, calling him senile, etc, that journalist would be arrested the second he got off the plane in Moscow. Everyone knows that.
