Ibn Kathir on S 68:13 Concerning the word Zanim, Al-Bukhari recorded from Ibn `Abbas that he said concerning the Ayah, عُتُلٍّ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ زَنِيمٍ (`Utul (cruel), and moreover Zanim.) "A man from the Quraysh who stands out among them like the sheep that has had a piece of its ear cut off.'' The meaning of this is that he is famous for his evil just as a sheep that has a piece of its ear cut off stands out among its sister sheep. In the Arabic language the Zanim is a person who is adopted among a group of people (i.e., he is not truly of them).

On the Likely Significance of the Name Isa In my view the mysterious name Isa عيسى probably originally had the same significance as Yassa يسى (Jesse--King David’s father). From the Syriac Ishai ܐܝܫܝ. Now if the initial letter of Ishai (olaph--a glottal stop) was pronounced like the Arabic ayin, we can see a reason for the change of letter, and the final letter (yud ‘i’) became alif maqsurah ى.

From, Safiyah - WikiIslam Safiyah bint Huyayy (صفية بنت حيي‎, c. 610 - c. 670) (also spelled Saffiya, Safiyya, Safiya bint Huyai) was the bride of Kinana and the chief mistress of the Jewish tribes of Quraizah and An-Nadhir. According to the sira, Muhammad captured and married her after killing her husband. She is considered an أم المؤمنين or "mother of the believers". She and her husband were both captured after the victorious conclusion of Muhammad's conquest of Khaybar. The narrations agree that Muhammad chose her due to her exceeding beauty, as had been his custom in other engagements where the believers took slave women as booty, such as the conquest of the Banu Qurayzah. There was apparently some concern for his safety the night of their wedding on the part of his followers, as he had just that day murdered her husband after taking him as a prisoner of war, going so far as to torture him in order to ascertain the location of his treasure, and had earlier killed her father after the siege of the Banu Qurayzah. Modern Muslims have found the story embarrassing from the modern, liberal point of view, which supports the rights of people to not be slaves and to choose their own sexual and marriage partners. The story of Safiyah flies in the face of these norms, instead reflecting a world where powerful men like Muhammad take women as prizes in war and use them sexually to their own advantage with little regard to the women's emotional well being. Rather than admit this quite plain reading of source texts, many Muslim duaah and apologists rather seek to use isolated narratives to recast Safiyah as a woman deeply in love with the man who had just killed her brother, husband (including torturing him in order to find his gold), and had earlier killed her father, and profoundly possessed by the conviction that he was a prophet of Allah.

He (ﷺ) said: 'May you be bereaved of your mother O Ziyad! I used to consider you among the Fuqaha of the people of Al-Madinah. The Tawrah and Injil are with the Jews and Christians, but what do they avail of them?'" Jubair said: "So I met 'Ubadah bin As-Samit and said to him: 'Have you not heard what your brother Abu Ad-Darda said?' Then I informed him of what Abu Ad-Darda said. He said: 'Abu Ad-Darda spoke the truth. If you wish, we shall narrated to you about the first knowledge to be removed from the people: It is Khushu', soon you will enter the congregational Masjid, but not see any man in it with Khushu'.'" [tirmidhi/41/9] It rather looks like he expected this 'taking of knowledge' to take place pretty soon, in his lifetime. Zirr reported: Ibn Mas’ud, may Allah be pleased with him, said, “The Quran will vanish in one night. No verse in the scripture or in the heart of anyone will be left behind.” Source: Sunan al-Dārimī 3343 Grade: Hasan (fair) according to Al-Darani Ibn Taymiyyah said, “Indeed, it will be taken away by night at the end of time, from the written copies and the hearts. Mustaurid al-Qurashi reported: I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: The Last Hour would come (when) the Romans would form a majority amongst people. 'Amr said to him (Mustaurid Qurashi): See what you are saying? He said: I say what I heard from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). Thereupon he said: If you say that, it is a fact for they have four qualities. They have the patience to undergo a trial and immediately restore themselves to sanity after trouble and attack again after flight. They (have the quality) of being good to the destitute and the orphans, to the weak and, fifthly, the good quality in them is that they put resistance against the oppression of kings. [muslim/54/45] The 'Romans' refers to those of the Eastern Roman Empire, i.e., the Byzantines. And the state religion was decidedly not Islam. . Islam is 'growing'. Who exactly are these Muslims? The Ahmadiyya, the Shiites, the Alawis, the Sufis? Ask a Sunni, and he'll probably deny that those above were Muslims. What if a Muslim were of the 'correct' branch of Islam? According to non-quranic hadith, only ONE sect would make it to 'the' (sic) Jannah. From another post: It was narrated from ‘Awf bin Malik that the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) said: “The Jews split into seventy-one sects, one of which will be in Paradise and seventy in Hell. The Christians split into seventy-two sects, seventy-one of which will be in Hell and one in Paradise. I swear by the One Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, my nation will split into seventy-three sects, one of which will be in Paradise and seventy-two in Hell.” It was said: “O Messenger of Allah, who are they?” He said: “The main body.” [ibnmajah/36/67] According to the hadith above, the Jews have a 1/71 chance of getting into the Jannah, the Christians a 1/72 and the Muslims a 1/73 chance. The Jews and Christians have a greater chance of getting in, and all without converting to Islam; the Muslims, however, have just one chance in 73 of getting into it, depending upon their being in the right sect. It would seem that someone asked just which exactly the winning sect of Islam was, and that the founder of Islam tried to fob him off with a non-answer, which the translator renders "The main body", the word being "Al-jama'ah", 'The group'. S 33:59 Prophet, tell your husbands and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their jalabib over them. That is more appropriate that they should be known and not harmed. And Allah was a forgiver, merciful. Narrated `Umar (bin Al-Khattab): My Lord agreed with me in three things: -1. And as regards the (verse of) the veiling of the women, I said, 'O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! I wish you ordered your wives to cover themselves from the men because good and bad ones talk to them.' So the verse of the veiling of the women was revealed. -3. Once the wives of the Prophet (ﷺ) made a united front against the Prophet (ﷺ) and I said to them, 'It may be if he (the Prophet) divorced you, (all) that his Lord (Allah) will give him instead of you wives better than you.' So this verse (the same as I had said) was revealed." (66.5). [bukhari/8/53] Narrated 'Aisha: The wives of the Prophet used to go to Al-Manasi, a vast open place (near Baqia at Medina) to answer the call of nature at night. 'Umar used to say to the Prophet "Let your wives be veiled," but Allah's Apostle did not do so. One night Sauda bint Zam'a the wife of the Prophet went out at 'Isha' time and she was a tall lady. 'Umar addressed her and said, "I have recognized you, O Sauda." He said so, as he desired eagerly that the verses of Al-Hijab (the observing of veils by the Muslim women) may be revealed. So Allah revealed the verses of "Al-Hijab" (A complete body cover excluding the eyes). Sahih Bukhari 1:4:148 Narrated 'Aisha: (the wife of the Prophet) 'Umar bin Al-Khattab used to say to Allah's Apostle "Let your wives be veiled" But he did not do so. The wives of the Prophet used to go out to answer the call of nature at night only at Al-Manasi.' Once Sauda, the daughter of Zam'a went out and she was a tall woman. 'Umar bin Al-Khattab saw her while he was in a gathering, and said, "I have recognized you, O Sauda!" He ('Umar) said so as he was anxious for some Divine orders regarding the veil (the veiling of women.) So Allah revealed the Verse of veiling. (Al-Hijab; a complete body cover excluding the eyes). "The hadith sources say that Allah’ veil is his light which prevents people from seeing him: A'mash has narrated this hadith on the same authority and said: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) was standing amongst us and he told us four things. (Sahih Muslim, Book 001, Number 0347) But this introduces a contradiction within the hadith collection since in another place Muhammad is reported to have said that the creation would be consumed if Allah were to remove his veil: Abu Musa reported: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) was standing amongst us and he told us five things. He said: Verily the Exalted and Mighty God does not sleep, and it does not befit Him to sleep. He lowers the scale and lifts it. The deeds in the night are taken up to Him before the deeds of the day, and the deeds of the day before the deeds of the night. His veil is the light. In the hadith narrated by Abu Bakr, instead of the word "light," it is fire. If he withdraws it (the veil), the splendour of His countenance would consume His creation so far as His sight reaches. (Sahih Muslim, Book 001, Number 0343) How, then, can Allah remove his veil before believers without this utterly consuming them? Whatever the answer, these facts remain: Allah, like believing women, wears a veil. Allah, like believing women, talks to people from behind a veil. Allah, like believing women, uncovers his veil only in the presence of his close intimate companions. It is vitally important to keep in mind that the Quran does not command believing men to wear a veil, only believing women. Moreover, what kind of veil does Allah wear? Does Allah’s veil only cover his face or his whole body? Which of his parts, if any, are uncovered, i.e. naked? With the foregoing in mind, it is hard to escape the fact that Muhammad or the author of the Quran believed that Allah is an exalted, glorified woman or, at the very least, a hermaphrodite or transvestite since they also ascribed exclusively masculine qualities to him, such as the use of masculine pronouns, verbs, adjectives etc. Or it may even be that the author of Quran believed that Allah can and does assume the form of a male and female, even though he isn’t either gender."
