Alanis Morissette is one of the most successful female artists and songwriters of all time and has sold in excess of 60 million albums worldwide. Her voice is instantly recognisable and she is a consummate live performer. On 2 July 2012 Alanis Morissette returned to Montreux as part of her Guardian Angel Tour in support of her new album "Havoc And Bright Lights". It was her third appearance at the festival. The set showcased a number of tracks from the new album alongside classic tracks from across her career. This is Alanis Morissette live at her very best. @@grimmevol4344 If I were her, I'd be *extremely selective* in how much I'm willing to damage my vocal cords, even for a recorded performance. Only an untrained rockstar or vocal novice goes on tour and vocalizes at 100% night after night. She is neither. Those who fail to protect their vocal cords blow them out, lose the instrument, and live to regret it.

The '99 Woodstock version is the best, it is a trippy song and the crowd were crowd surfing. Alanis was dodging bottles being thrown at her. Also she was sooo stoned in that version (her eyes 😂😂) but I thought that it made the track even better. I still love all her performances though

Every time anyone mentions City of Angels I get chills because I grew up in Los Angeles feeling like I'm always being watched or in the presence of angels and sometimes I feel a whole wind hit my body. When the movie came out, it scared me to death. I realize maybe it was just cause I was always buried in books and was just more sensitive than normal and it was all in my head -- but I will never get that image of Angels walking the city and on the coast. But I'll say this, everything about me seems to come from some grace beyond the scope of human existence. I am one very very lucky person in life... possibly by the grace of Angels.

I am completely overwhelmed by this performance. The music and vocals trigger all my dopamine receptors, and the extended musical outro should continue for several hours. Alanis wrote this song in 15 minutes. It transports me to heaven for hours … I can imagine the orchestral arrangement from the original recording continuing throughout this magical experience, while the piano gently insists the melody is eternal.
