Hi at 0:48 can all of you see a bell that is not ringing? Well that is the semitone in re4 that is used with the 8 minors bells in mib3 ( the 4 giantest bells and great George don't ring when is used the semitone) so the bells are 14 in total

it is such a shame that the acoustics have never been resolved. They are lovely bells in a shocking tower. i how much it would cost to build a false ceiling over the top of Great George right out to the louvres. So much wasted space in the belfry

Perhaps a sort of 'upside-down pyramid' like I believe there is at Westminster Abbey which, over there is to make the bells louder and clearer outside - rather here I think it would help direct sound out of the louvres rather than up into the massive room. Not sure if I explain myself very well
@Steven_Rowe2 жыл бұрын
@@francescogreenslade7793 No I understand what you mean. The problem is no only is the belfry way to big but the surfaces are hard, a concrete floor and frame and nothing to absorb or soak up the sound, you only need to walk into am empty room to realise it echoes a bit. The belfry is that big it would cost way to much money. They could almost rent out the space above the bells for communication equipment and add another floor over the bells. I think they could sound amazing The other thing is that the bells as really way to heavy. Simply ringing a peal or even a,quarter of Stedman would test you out let alone turning it in to some Surprise Maximus

Since there's so much space, why can't Saint George be rung like the other huge bells like Great Paul etc.?
@RingerPeter3 жыл бұрын
The weight of that thing would most likely damage the tower of the cathedral. When a bell is being rung, the weight of it is multiplied by 4. So 14x4=56 which means when the bells is moving, 56 tonnes of metal is moving. To be honest this could sway the tower so much, that it might crack the walls and make the tower very weak. Which could result in the tower to collapse.
@theodorranebo2909 Жыл бұрын
@@RingerPeter The weight is no problem, there are several bigger bells out there that swings. Like St Petersglocke and Pummerin, both of them weighs over 20 tons.
@Steven_Rowe14 күн бұрын
@@RingerPeter There is no way Great George would damage the tower. That tower is massive, the floor and the frame are concrete. Actually ringing a counterbalanced bourdon bell like Great Paul and Great Peter would probably have less forces due to manage factors. Firstly they swing slower and also the swing is counterbalanced so the thrust of the bell in one direction is offset by part of the bell above the bearing axis and the huge headstock is opposing thrust.. Also the tower is in the centre and is not free standing. Sadly it doesn't swing, it is the movement of bells that enhance the actual sound.
