My father was alive when Ray Clemence was playing for Liverpool and he always tell me that Ray Ray Clemence was the best goalkeeper he had ever seen and a great LEGEND for Liverpool. Yesterday when I told my dad of Ray Clemence's death he was deeply saddened upon hearing ot and he told me " Son, football has lost A GREAT LEGEND ". My dad afterwards showed me a few videos of Ray Clemence's saves and I was amazed at it. RIP Ray Clemence a Liverpool and Great LEGEND and the BEST GOALKEEPER in the WORLD HISTORY

Yes, a superb keeper and without doubt one of the main reasons Liverpool were so successful in the 1970s. Why they sold him when he was still brilliant is beyond me. Grobelaar showed the occasional flash of brilliance but I think Clemence was far more dependable.

The best in the world bar non for a period in the mid70's to early 80's. I'm a Newcastle fan and remember the 77/78 European cup finals well. Better than Shilton and a lot calmer as well. Those were the days that no matter which club you supported, when Liverpool played in europe, you watched in awe, and always watched. As a football fan first and foremost their game in the 77 quarters against St. Etienne at Anfield was simply the most gripping game i've ever watched. RIP Ray

I felt he was better than Shilton he was more of an all round goalkeeper. Shilton was fantastic excellent reflexes, but it was a well known fact in those days that Clemence was better in the air. There wasn't much between the pair of them.

Rest in peace to the best goalkeeper Liverpool have had and ever will have .legend is a word banded round to often to people who sometimes don’t deserve it .in this case it is deserved the man was and will always be a legend god speed ray 😥😥

Don't forget his other position he played in and made his own at Liverpool, we had no need for the use of a sweeper system as Ray played that role to perfection, and he was left to do it because of his speed in which he came off his line, as he also acted as a spare defender by taking up that role as sweeper, can you imagine the look in eyes of the strikers when they saw him coming towards them as he put fear in to their eyes on many occasions, also whenever he faced a penalty he never ever moved off his line too early always after the ball had actually been kicked unlike most GKs in todays game, he should have been Knighted for all his achievements, R.I.P Ray Clemence our sympathy goes out to your family and friends at this very sad time, 3 football clubs will be mourning his passing today, Scunthorpe, Liverpool and Spurs fans will be saddened by this news

No wonder Ron Greenwood, then England Manager, couldnt choose between Clemence and Shilton. It's a bit like waiting for a bus, waiting ages for one then two come at the same time lol Watching videos on the two keepers just makes it hard to choose between the two, especially when you add Southall into the fold as well in the early 80's ( I know he played for Wales, but three great keepers playing in England at the same time )

Ray clemence was better than Shooting especially in the air and penalty shootout. He was dependable and those clean sheets is great
