In this episode we learn how to live in the remote region of the Rio Dulce, Guatemala. Waiting for hurricane season to pass means going about every day life, rain or shine, over the course of 6 months. Many cruisers use this time to make improvements to their boat and get involved in the local community by volunteering with several local charities. We also explore the El Boqueron canyon, the Shaman Tower, the Castillo San Felipe de Lara and Cayo Quemado.
If you are interested in learning more about the charities here are links to their Facebook pages:

Hi guys, Just found you and subbed. You're actually going to get 2 views from us because having watched this episode I now need to watch again with my husband. What a great episode. I'd love to go to Guatemala, but Steve has been a bit reluctant. I think you're video will prove to him that we should go. You made it so interesting. We're currently in Martinique and will be heading north to Antigua/BVI's etc. later this year. I have so many questions, would you mind if I pm you? Thanks, Annette, Steve & Gus (SV Cordelia) 🥰⛵🐾

Thanks for posting the video. The Rio Dulce has changed dramatically since I was last there 2002 :) I didn’t hang out for the rain season :) There was no sail loft and far less sailboats. I stayed at Marina Tortuga, not far from the fortress. Enjoy your time there…I’m currently in the Finger Lakes NY. We are praying for a cloudless Total Solar Eclipse this Monday :)

Oh wow! I know the Rio is Changing a lot from stories like yours. I am grateful we were able to witness the old ways before it transitions to a modernized waterway. We saw a total solar eclipse in Georgia a few years ago. It’s magical if you can get in the right location.
