I wish you would put English subtitles INSTEAD of dubbing. Because of the dubbing, we can hear clearly neither the piano, nor Mr Tsiskaridze's voice - which is a pity, since some of us can understand a few words of Russian.

Nikolai is both an actor and a very extraordinary dancer. What really makes his performances as dancer and as teacher is his inherent feel for drama. Will his students learn technique, how to dance ballet, but leave out the drama? In Russia, there is no Balanchine telling the students, "Don't act, just dance!" that the Balanchine philosophy. Not in Russia it isn't!

Anna, Nikolai has been always a very honest, true to himself, sincere person with a big heart. And such an amazing dancer. And his boys are amazing. They were lucky to have him for a teacher and rector. Today is his birthday and I wish him many years of success. Did you see their entire exam video? It's amazing.

MALE DANCER IS GREAT ATHLETE. HE IS ABLE TO PLAY ANY SPORT HE CHOOSES. A MALE DANCER IS ABLE TO JUMP HIGHER IN BASKETBALL, LEAP OVER HURDLES AND RUN VERY FAST IN TRACK. A MALE DANCER CAN DODGE KICKS AND HITS IN MARTIAL ARTS, BOXING, ESCAPE OUT OF PHYSICAL HOLDS IN WRESTLING AND MORE. WITH AGILITY, HE CAN LEAP OVER FOOTBALL PLAYERS AND DODGE TACKLES ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD AND SCORE A TOUCH DOWN. A MALE DANCER IS STRONG ENOUGH TO LIFT UP A GIRL ABOVE HIS HEAD. WITH POWERFUL ARMS HE CAN SPEED THROW A FOOTBALL 75MPH OR FASTER. IF A MALE DANCER WANTS TO LEARN A NEW SPORT, HE CAN WATCH FOOTBALL, BASKETBALL, BASEBALL OR HE CAN ATTEND TO HIS FRIEND BASEBALL PRACTICE, FOOTBALL PRACTICE, BASKETBALL PRACTICE, TENNIS PRACTICE AND MORE. JUST REMEMBER YOU HAVE GREAT POTENTIAL, OUTSTANDING FLEXIBILITY AND INCREDIBLE AGILITY IN BODY MOVEMENT AND AMAZING COORDINATION. FAITH IS THE SUBSTANCE OF THINGS HOPE FOR THE EVIDENCE OF THINGS NOT SEEN. WALK BY FAITH AND NOT BY SIGHT. KEEP LIFTING WEIGHTS, CHIN UPS, PUSH UPS AND MORE. TAKE CARE.

в большом уважении….NT is brilliant genius, no doubt! Gotta love his tough love comments: “Why are you standing like that for crying out loud…what a nightmare!” lol These guys need to have strong egos and will of steel not to wilt under that kind of comment, and clearly they do!!!

Actually, these boys would feel ignored if they didn't have these comments from him, when he makes them, they know he cares, when he reprimands them, they know he cares. They absolutely adore him and he loves them.

Sure. Yet it's hardly amazing just how much mental illness pesists among dancers! At least, it was amazing to me when i started... but far less so, having seen the level of tough love/outright nastiness/bitchiness/sustained and volatile/half-hidden negativity that permeats so many interractions. It was most clear to me that the longer people staying in dance the nuttier/unpleasent they were! This is thing with "old school" mindsets in all professions, I speculate, reflecting society at large... The quality of the results go without question, but there are psychological consequences to everything. Further, once toughness/abuse is endured, its difficult to instruct/negotiate with the recipient on any softer/less confrontational basis becuase they don't respect you unless you are tough with them, slanting future management of/co-working with them.
@BytomGirl
@BytomGirl 5 жыл бұрын
Abuse????? These students are lucky to be so "abused" and love him for it. He brings the best in them. His love for them is very much like love of his teachers was for him and they were tough on him. Abuse is when teacher doesn't care about the student, calls him names, hits and doesn't give anything constructive, just wants to get over with the lesson. Nikolai gave his life to these kids, he does everything for them. Takes them to concerts, opera, movies, even overseas, sometimes gives them money when they are hungry, spends hours with them every day to make sure they are perfect, sometimes makes their costumes, does their hair and make up and parents are grateful to him. He praises them when they do well and is proud of them. He is loved there by everyone. Oscar Frame in the interview said that he worked them very hard and released in him potential he didn't know he had and he is immensely grateful. So don't go judging because someone out of pure love wants to make sure his students achieve perfection.
@TheReddances
@TheReddances 5 жыл бұрын
I am PERFECTLY HAPPY to judge. Been there, done it for 26 years = not talking lightly AT ALL! Of course, my comments are generic. The individual teacher's complete practice I cannot possibly know in its totality, because one OBVIOUSLY has to have experienced it. Particularism does not invalidate an argument, otherwise there are no lessons.
@BytomGirl
@BytomGirl 5 жыл бұрын
Generic comments applied to individual people can be very unfair and hurtful and can't be made unless you have followed that person and know everything there is to know about him which is what I have done as I speak Russian which I doubt you do. If you don't know totality then don't speak ill of someone not knowing all facts especially using words like abuse. Such words can't be thrown lightly and are considered slander so be careful what you say, someone who doesn't know the person you speak about might take you literally

Ballet is so graceful and classical and feminine, for eons it has only been considered a woman's sport. Maybe the only woman's sport. That and the tights and the make-up and the classical music... But thanks to 2000's CENTER STAGE and BILLY ELLIOT, the stigmata started to disappear. Well, somewhat... Are males just not allowed in ballet? Something that men are not supposed to have anything to do with. It seems to be this thing that has always been. Hasn't it? It's time the guys made their voices heard and established that they have a right to be there. And ballet is understood. Seen for what it is. High time...

Yes, he is a great teacher but I think Tsiskaridze was an astonishingly wonderful dancer - I think he was at times better than Baryshnikov or Nureyev. There was no one like him - he had artistry, musicality, beauty, athleticism and an amazing floating quality to his jumps and very soft landings. And...the most beautiful legs in ballet. I could happily watch his performance videos over and over - especially Giselle with the equally amazing Svetlana Lunkina.

You can't be a great teacher without being a great dancer, think before you talk
@jewelmarkess
@jewelmarkess 3 жыл бұрын
@@BytomGirl You can, but he was a wonderful dancer and is a great teacher. Generally though, teaching and dancing are different talents. Agrippina Vaganova was a great teacher, but while she was a good dancer, she wasn't a great dancer. Petipa hated her. The legendary Lyudmila Kovaleva was never a principal. It might've been because she choose to have a family, it's difficult to say. But at any rate, it's different talent.
@BytomGirl
@BytomGirl 3 жыл бұрын
@@jewelmarkess Different? You will never be a great teacher if you weren't a great dancer, you can't teach proper technique and beautiful expression without them being a part of your own dance... a bad dancer will only produce bad students when he is a teacher.
