Living in a Swamp: Filipino Stilt Home 🇵🇭

■ PHILIPPINES, SIARGAO: Nothing beats seeing how people live. NOTHING! Whilst touring Vietnam I often rode past little communities of houses standing on stilts out in rivers and swamps. I just never got around to visiting one.
When I was touring Siargao, an island in the Philippines with Tim Shannon, I once again rode past such a community. Sadly we were on a deserted beach hunt and Shannon had already ridden way ahead. This wasn't the day for a 'Harald Invades'. I thus made a mental note of where these houses were and decided to try and backtrack here another day.
The next day I set out in the blazing sun to once again find this incredible looking swamp that for some reason people have decided to turn into a home.
After an hour of being roasted in the scorching heat i found it. I parked my bike and started to roll tape. This is what ensued.....

@mj fan forever In the US I have a pretty good union job. I make about 1200$ a week before taxes. After taxes I make about 850$ a week. My apartment is 1900$ a month. 300$ a month in car insurance. Gas for the house can be up 900$ a month in the winter just to heat an average apartment where I live. Not to mention food prices on average are about 4 or 5 times more expensive than in say the Philippines. That's not counting gas for my car prices,electricity, phone,internet (all these things are mandatory for just about any job) etc etc. Its not cheap. Most Americans live paycheck to paycheck.
@ElsaAndAnnie
@ElsaAndAnnie 3 жыл бұрын
@@JG-id5vi, Why car insurance is $300 a month when I pay less than $80 a month. Also gas $900 a month when I pay $300 or less. I will not complain about apartment in Boston however you live luxury life.
@JG-id5vi
@JG-id5vi 3 жыл бұрын
@@ElsaAndAnnie lol I dont live in Boston anymore. Maybe 30 miles away. Anyways the average price for natural gas a month in the winter in Massachusetts is a little over 1100$ if you have oil forget it. Like 1600$. I live in a not very good city with High crime. So my rent is cheap but car insurance is high. My apartment is 1900 for 3 bedrooms it's not luxury. If you live in "luxury" here it's like 2500 per bedroom Also car insurance in MA is probably higher than most of the country. Car insurance was strictly state run until a few years ago. You couldn't get geico or any big name brands until recently they started easing on the regulations.

@@JG-id5vi, OMG, That’s too much for heating!!! Move to Texas man. High salaries and I hardly pay on cooling. Max $250 per month on a 3,500 SQFT home :). There is no winter in Texas other than little chilly in Dec/Jan: Heating barely $150 per month :)

It'll be 3 for each and then we wouldn't eat the last one because we are kinda shy about taking the last one. It's not really a rule or any tradition of some sort but we Filipinos notice that habit. I've been binge watching this channel because I just found it 3 days ago. Im filipino also but i grew up in Toronto. But i know my mom live like this growing up. So this just reminds me how fortunate I am and how hard my parents work to provide for me and my brother. At 16:10 , the smile on their faces was amazing. Brother this was amazing to watch.
