The way he gathered wisdom from everywhere he visited (physically and intellectually) and packaged it into the monomyth - the one above all - is a pivotal foundation of the One Tribe concept we all should adopt to ease the pain of this world. He didn’t crusade for it. He simply put it out there. He pointed out the stream to us. It is up to us to take the soul cleansing first sip from it.

Best comment in regard to Joseph Campbell's Monomyth. Yesterday I was sitting at my mother's kitchen table discussing Joseph Campbell with my 22 year old daughter. I gave her "The Hero's Journey" when she turned 20. We were also discussing the Giant Buddha's in Afghanistan, and those Giant Buddha's are an Archetype for your conscious. Every human is a Buddha, Joseph Campbell helped me embody this in my soul. It's not an other.

There are many who still speak in such an elegant and knowledgeable manner. Some are in the field of the sciences, of mathematics, of philosophy, etc.. Mr. Campbell was and will always be one of the most prominent purveyors and scholars of mythology who was able to reach the generations from his time to ours. Not saying that there weren’t other mythologists who were fundamental and the builders of the scholarly viewing of myths, just that Mr. Campbell spoke to us deeply for our time. Read his works since I was a teen and will always continue to visit his body of work throughout the years to come.

Bill Moyers is one of the most underrated and exceptional journalists ever. He is brilliant at what he does and has a moral compass that is unwavering. Rarely these days do you find a real journalist instead of a talking head without any real journalistic training or expertise. Moyers' questions are our questions and he knows how to dig deeper and deeper to get to the essence of an idea.

The Power of Myth series should be required viewing at the college level. That's when I saw the documentary, and I feel like I was just old enough to be ready to hear these two wise men discussing these things, but also young enough to have many lessons and mistakes ahead of me where I could think back and say to myself, well, that part was in the Power of Myth and they were right. Now I'm in my 50s, and feeling like a major problem of the world is that too many of us don't really understand myths. Myths are not just wishful thinking or irrational delusion. They are the stories of what makes us a living part of this universe. Very scary due to contemplating physical death, but also gloriously beautiful because all of us have a completely unique experience of it.

I’m 54 and have had a messy, troubled life of successes and failures, a hard start that led me into so many misunderstandings and also miracles. I’ve lost all my friends to my choices and life courses and the love of my life died last year after surgery… I’m in a terrifying and beautiful solitude. But now I know: If you settle down just enough - past your regrets, attachments and hopes - you will find this palace of peace waiting for you. It is not boring or indifferent and it will carry you through whatever comes.

The spirit/soul in you, the consciousness is what survives.. Hoovers after your death as a collective consciousness ... again.. Like before it once at your beginning came in your brain. Thinking of it as, naming it, the inner Self the Spirit/Soul.. Its the ‘holy’ collective consciousness which will always be here. So in a way your never totally gone as is nothing that exists here. I realized that when my brother died. Everything just changes.. ever changes.. Myths can help through life Im sure of that too
