Hannah, I live in a town in Oxfordshire where the town charter was granted by William the Conqueror in 1066. The town is Wallingford a famous crossing point along the Thames. We think of the States of America as a very young country for local history can go back the Romans in 100AD. Not far from us is Oxford a must should you visit the United Kingdom.

My dear Dr. Hannah, so nice to see you on a Friday! I love love love history and especially history that you can walk around and experience first hand. I always picture the thousands (millions?) of people who have walked the same roads or lived in the same houses, dare I say castles, that I have walked or been inside. It’s crazy to think of the short history of this country at 250 years old and then to experience lands that are thousands of years old. As for the gulag, enemies and adversaries…do you have many? Such an amazing soul you are, thank you for these vlogs. That attire from the beginning is super classy. The Castle has been there for 800 yrs? Wow I can only imagine what it looked like in the first 2 generations that lived there. 800 yrs is basically 10 to 11 lifetimes assuming the average lifespan of a human is 70 to 80yrs. Be sure to journey to Burg Eltz on the Moselle River, and if time permits, Schloss Auerbach in Germany and Idar Oberstein, auch in Germany. Ich bin Oesterreicher/Deutsch, and these are incredible to visit. History....never enough to learn.

@@DrHannahStraight if you’re talking about the oasis hike with the palm trees and stream with some small falls, I just saw it a couple of weeks ago. It was beautiful. Good hike as well. I also visited Eaton falls this week. The fall was really flowing. I would send you a pic of it but I don’t think I can on here. Maybe you’ve been there. If not, it’s worth seeing. It’s an easy hike with about 8 water crossings. Water was a little above knee high. There was a nice pool at the bottom of the falls.

Imagine having to haul all that rock up the hill , they must have been so strong back then , but those castles must have been so draughty and cold . I think the prison cell in the floor may have been an oubliette , absolutely horrific experience for those unfortunate enough to be held in one , and forgotten . What made me smile was when you told us the castle was eerie , from someone who fearlessly spends nights deep in the forest , in a hammock , with the bears . Thanks so much for sharing your French adventures with us , Hannah , fascinating , entertaining and stunning scenery .
