I just had a ALU-CAB Canopy Camper installed on my GMC Canyon. Hoping to take it out this weekend for the first time. I don't plan on living in mine full-time like you, but wanted to use it as my base camp when I go on backpacking trips. Having a nice camper to come back to after hiking for several days will be nice. Plus I'm getting closer to retirement and plan on doing more dispersed camping solo since my wife has no interest in camping.

@Lucky Dog. I’d have to say that you are indeed a lucky dog! Congratulations! I’m sure that you will learn a lot this weekend, and I hope you have a great time! As it turns out, I had to cut my trip short because of the hurricane and I’m now back down in southwestern Florida tending to the house. I’ll head out again, this coming spring and I plan to go up into Alaska (with a lot of shorter excursions before then). I hope you’ll keep me posted on your adventures! Perhaps we can meet sometime on one of the trails. 👍🏻

Any experience living out of this in cold, snowy environments? I’m seriously considering the Alu cabin for extended mountain bike trips in summer and snowboard trips in winter. Plan to live out of it 3-4 months a year. The cold is what concerns me. Also, awesome vid. Not many vids of people who live out of it for extended periods.

@Jehad Hannoush That’s really interesting! Does any part of the screen touch the side of the heater?

I'm truly considering an Alucab over other options. Do you have a purchase list of your build out? I like the idea of your cabinets. Sounds like you built them. Also, where did you get your blue water container?

@William Smisek Glad to hear it... I don't think you will be disappointed! I've probably got most of the purchase lists around but I would have to dig for it. Did you have a chance to watch kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eMd4hNNmntG4Y3k.html (that's a walk-through of the first build)? The second build is also shown in this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bs6SqZCpu9HWfok.html Yes, you are correct. I designed and built the cabinets just before this last trip using 80/20 aluminum extrusion (see kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ebd8Y71218zYm4E.html ). They turned out to be rather expensive but I liked having them fit my specs. And they really have held up and worked very well. I also like the clear panels... it makes it easy to see what is where. That blue water filter is a Lifesaver made in England (a military-grade water filter). I absolutely love it! You pressurize it by pumping air into the container, which forces water through the filters and out. I run all of my drinking/cooking water through it. I bought it at iconlifesaver.com/product/lifesaver-jerrycan-starter-pack/ Hope this helps. If you still would like me to dig around for the lists, just let me know. All the best to you and yours this holiday season!

@William Smisek Hey William... I just found a rather comprehensive document that I put together some time back regarding the truck build with links to each component. If you'll send me an email address, I can forward it to you. Thanks!

Do you consider a deck system?
@OverLandScapes
@OverLandScapes Жыл бұрын
Only briefly. I decided to go with the cabinets, however, because I would still be able to get into the cabin to use the Porta potty without having to raise the tent. Not only would I have to raise the tent, but I also would have to raise the sleeping platform. if it were not for wanting to be able to use the Porta potty while on the road, I think I would have gone with a deck system. They are pretty cool!
