I lived there in the mid 70's on Paula way. Went to OG. I remember when san Pasquale high, and the wild animal park was built. Cruise on Friday night on valley parkway. Hanging out in front of the big bear market. Bused tables at aunt Emma's, I did enjoy the fish frys, place was packed. The reservoir wasn't anything but brush up to the water, we used to swim at the far end and when we saw or heard the buzz of the dam guards troll motor, we'd dry off, head up to the eagles nest, cool off in the shade within the cave. Most of the parkway heading to valley center was mostly avocados and oranges. I remember when they started growing kiwi's in valley center. It was a better place than I deserved to be a teenager in. I hope others have their memories. I'm 63 now, and I still miss the age when slurppies were new. 😊

Native Escondidian here. I currently live in South Escondido. If you’re like me and don’t mind a little bit of driving to get a taste of a little bit of everything, this is your place. If you want night life downtown is about 30min. Away. If you want a taste of Mexico the U.S/Mexican Border is about 45-50 min. Away. If you want desert, Anza Borrego is about 60min away. If you want to see snow Palomar Mtn. Is about 45-50 min away. If you want Beach, Del Mar is about 25 min away. And if you want to go to “The Happiest Place on Earth” Disneyland is about 60-70 min away.

It's cheaper than the surrounding beach communities,however it gets much hotter in the summer.not a fan of Escondido

When you talked about coastal access you totally left out Del Dios Hwy. Makes Del Mar and Encinitas totally accessible in under 25 minutes.

@@AlexVolare I hope you come 'up the hill' to Ramona some day. We're proud of our sweet little town. Pamo valley is a must see. Three sisters falls. Up the hill restaurant is amazing. Devils punch bowl and last but not least potato chip rock. The list goes on. Cowboys and cowgirls right here in San Diego County ❤

Wow. You did not do your research very well. The one where you said to get to the beach is the one that I would never take. It’s too many extra miles! And the perks of living in Escondido? I don’t even think you addressed them. I don’t live in Escondido, but I sure know more about it than you do.
