You can probably find a studio or small apartment for around $70-$80 per night depending on the time of year you're planning to come. Fort Myers will most likely be more affordable than the Fort Lauderdale area. But they are completely different. I'd say visit both places and see what fits better with your lifestyle.

Just like any other “bigger” city, there are homeless and you will find that it’s more concentrated closer to downtown or near low income areas. A recent study in Fort Lauderdale found that the population of chronically homeless was 856 people. There are probably about 8 or 9 airports within an hour of the Fort Lauderdale area. And we are a huge hub for travelers and tourists alike. So, I’d say there is definitely some opportunity for that down here. Boeing has a distribution center down here, I think closer to Miami. But there are quite a few smaller, executive airports and there’s a lot of companies you might find opportunities with like kellstorm, Collins, banyan, etc. I’m no expert in the aerospace field but those are just a few of the ones I know off hand.

I think that more people are considering leaving due to the reasons I mentioned in addition to the diminished advantage of living near NYC after the pandemic. I think people are factoring the disadvantages of population density and pace of living in NJ and the opportunities that have presented themselves from working remotely.

It’ll be much easier for me to explain and much easier for you to understand over the phone rather than typing it out haha High rise condo living and townhouse living is like comparing apples to oranges. So, I’m just going to touch on condos for now. You definitely can’t beat the views of an oceanfront condo but I can’t say if it’ll be worth it not. It really all comes down to personal preference. Do you want to be in the middle of the action all the time or do you prefer a little bit of a slower pace? Naturally, just like any other bigger city, there’s going to be a lot more congestion close to downtown. Also close to downtown you’re going to find most of the well known touristy destinations like Las Olas and that strip of Fort Lauderdale beach (from las Olas Blvd to Oakland Park Blvd) where most of the bars and clubs are. That being said, there aren’t many true “oceanfront” condos around that area. Most of the condos are going to be across the street from the beach or a little more inland. So, If you’re wondering about actual oceanfront condos where you get off of the elevator and walk onto the beach. Those areas are going to be a little more laid back. If you want a good mix of things to do but not all the crazy tourists and spring breakers, I’d start with galt ocean mile and/or lauderdale by the sea. There are some other great areas in Fort Lauderdale and close by that I would recommend but we can talk about those another time if you’re interested.

Moved from Boston 18 months ago and have not regretted it. Boston is going downhill and FAST due to cost, politics, and taxes on everything. The main complaints I hear from people down here are housing costs and traffic but both of those can't even be compared to Boston so you wont have complaints. My only recommendation is to have a steady job set and ready to go before moving.

Stephan Dekemper I do rentals too. Some people are comfortable buying before really getting to know an area but for the most part, a lot of people want to rent for a little while when they first move down.
