I moved to Memphis 10 years ago from NYC. Memphis is a lot of potential. However, it lacks strong leadership. They don't take quality of life crimes seriously. Therefore the city residents suffer.

I lived in Memphis all my life until i move about 2 yrs ago. Memphis property taxes are low and it does not take long to commute. The riverfront is nice and the bridge from downtown Memphis to West Memphis you can walk over is nice. Yes people in memphis go hard for the Grizzlies. The lack of opportunity is not good and most of the jobs are temp service provided. Absolutely right the transport service is not good you will definitely need a car. If anyone have to live their stay in Olive Branch or Arlington or Bartlett especially if you have kid's. Memphis schools are not that great but there are some amazing teachers their. Oh yeah purchase a gun in case well you know just be safe when having one and in your home with kid's. If you not actually from their don't go there unless you really know the people's ijs...the food is great in Memphis and some people down to earth and real humble. The cost of living is affordable and there is a lot of small black own business.

I lived in Memphis when I was in 4th and 5th grade. I still remember Little Flower School and all of my friends there. Loved loved Memphis. Took a plane that stopped in Memphis on my way back home to Chicago one time. The plane flew right over the Memphis /Arkansas bridge as it was getting dark. Beautiful sight!!

@@veranewsome7728 38127 is the Raleigh area. Raleigh is between Frayser (hood) and Bartlett(Good). Raleigh has some good spots its pretty hit or miss. I wouldn’t live there but if you can I would live in Bartlett or Millington which is the next town up & its nice. Hope this helps.

Humidity over dry heat any day. Did basic training in Oklahoma in 2011 and that was definitely an eye opener for a youngster leaving Alabama for the first time. It brung one of my battles to her knees at 6am in the morning.

Seasons are everywhere in 🇺🇸 America. Spring is still cool, Summer is hot and humid. Beautiful weather, lakes, and rivers are inviting at this time of year. Autumn is cooler and more windy. Winter has its very distinctive climate change. Sometimes a little snow here and there, depending on where you are in Tennessee. It's all about a beautiful state and the quiet life.

Thanks for your comment Carol. I was coming from the perspective of being a Native Houstonian. I was just home last month and it was humid and hot. Certainly not a Winter & Thanksgiving in Houston is hot sometimes. I appreciate being able to experience all 4 seasons here in Memphis. 🙂

I enjoyed my 2 years in Memphis, but the city needs serious help from lawmakers, and that is why I am leaving soon. If Memphis decided to act strongly to curb Black Criminality, the city would start BOOMING. That is the cancer eating at Memphis' soul, and the ONLY reason people do not move here in droves. I learned this by actually talking to black people in my community. They know the truth. Sadly, the local lawmakers are not intellectually honest enough to admit this, and only pretend to care.

The Memphis suburbs are very, very, different than living in the city limits of Memphis. Collierville, Germantown, Bartlett, Arlington are upscale incorporated cities with their own highly trained, efficient, police and fire departments. Crime is low in those areas with excellent schools. Homes in the suburbs are generally from $400,000 up to million dollar mansions. No state income tax, property taxes in the suburbs are low compared to other similar size communities. No reason to even go into Memphis City limits unless your work requires it. Memphis has an NBA team. The University of Memphis sports teams are often nationally ranked. Winter consists of one or two snowfalls nothing like living in a Northern state. I know because I was born and raised in NW Indiana. Memphis weather nothing like that. The city of Memphis and Shelby county have crime problems but the suburban cities don’t. I lived in Germantown for 23 years moved to Collierville 22 years ago. I’ve never been a victim of crime and feel absolutely safe living in the suburbs.

The total population in the Memphis area is about 1.2mm. The city proper is about 650k. Memphis can be a great city but there is a weak criminal justice system. Crime and violence really hurts the city's ability to thrive as it should.
