Love your information about Oklahoma. We are both Arizona natives, but we moved to Grove in 2010, and loved it. We were there almost 6 years. One thing you mentioned that Oklahoma doesn't have snow. It does and it has a lot at times, especially in the eastern part of the state. We were in Grove in 2011 when they had the record snowfall of 22 inches and 22 below zero and those records have not been broken. We were living in an RV when that happened but we did great. Also loved your mention of Braums, we miss that place so much. Their ice cream is and was the best. But you failed to mention there is a Braums in Joplin MO also. We also loved their hamburgers too. Oklahoma is a great place to live and for us retirees on a tight budget we did fine there. We just had to move back to Arizona because our son became ill with cancer (which we lost him in January 2021), but would go back in a heartbeat. Also so many people cry about Oklahoma having tornados. Yes they do, but the entire 1/3 of the middle of the country from the Mexican border to the Canadian border is actually called Tornado Alley, all if it. But there are other states that have as many it not more tornados then Oklahoma. And many people don't know it but Oklahoma has MORE earthquakes than any other state in the union, including California.

Lots of winter action and snow in east OK, I use to live in Rogers County, moved to north Alabama some years ago, weather was boring and snow extremely rare here but welcomed on my part, Southerners hate snow and can't drive in it, schools closed down when flurries predicted and I laughed, in OK we had to go to school in 18 inches of snow with ice !

Oklahoma is an OK place to live. It is dirt cheap to live here, but the trade off is that there is relatively little to do. Its a good 2-3 hour drive to get somewhere fun for the weekend. (Mainly Arkansas , Devil's Den, Beavers Bend, Wichita Wildlife Refuge, Robbers Cave all fun places, just a pretty decent drive to get there) Summers are hot and humid, but the winters are relatively mild. I am not saying it doesn't get cold, but it rarely snows and if we get anything, its ice. But that is only a couple of times a winter. And, of course, what's not to love about Braums? Yum!

Regarding Passenger Rail options in Oklahoma: I have taken AMTRAK between Norman, OK and KCMO and between Norman, OK and Naperville, IL near Chicago. The portion of the trip between Norman and OKC is on The Heartland Flyer and the portion of the trip between the OKC Sante Fe station on EK Gaylord in OKC and Newton Kansas is on a coach bus dedicated to AMTRAK with only 1 intermediate stop in Wichita. The remainder of the trip between Newton Kansas and your ultimate destination which in my case was on The Southwest Chief #4 East bound (to KCMO or Naperville) or The Southwest Chief #3 West bound (from Naperville or KCMO to Newton Kansas). The Southwest Chief long distance intercity passenger train runs between LA and Chicago). Unfortunately there isn't a passenger train between OKC and Tulsa yet which at one point was going to be called the Eastern Flyer and the present Tulsa Mayor hasn't been supportive of it preferring instead to look ahead at driverless car technology than a mass mover of people like passenger rail. I don't know too many people who are likely to afford a driverless car in the near future either and especially for solving a mass transit capability. You have more room to stretch out on a train than on a bus or plane. There is a more positive FB article about taking the Heartland Flyer AMTRAK train between OKC and Fort Worth where there are further rail connections including Dallas, DFW Airport, and even the Texas Eagle long distance train. This can avoid the stress of driving in the DFW area and the tolls too that you're subsequently billed for. - facebook.com/groups/HeartlandFlyer/permalink/10157685752291921/ The most knowledgeable person about passenger rail information is Evan Stair and you can find some of his FB posts at the following two FB groups. - Friends of the Heartland Flyer - facebook.com/groups/HeartlandFlyer/ and Friends of the Southwest Chief - facebook.com/groups/25567124972 Unfortunately, the Southwest Chief schedules are thrice weekly during COVID but am hopeful for a return to daily scheduling at some point and hopefully a return to Chef prepared meals to order in its dining car again too. The Southwest Chief does have sleeping car(s) with bedroom roomettes (up to 2 people), bedrooms, and family bedrooms. You would want to try to book well in advance if you want a bedroom. AMTRAK sometimes offers discounts on their bedroom rooomettes which might make it worthwhile for couples traveling together. It's my understanding that the prices for booking a bedroom include dining car meals (exceopt alcoholic beverages) but right now the dining car meals are reheated like on an airline as opposed to chef prepared to order. I don't know if/when there might be a return to chef prepared to order meals off of a menu in the dining car and it's a major benefit to traveling on the long distance trains and in booking a bedroom on the train. There is an effort underway to extend the northern terminus of the Heartland Flyer from OKC to Newton Kansas. If/when that happens, it could add stops in Edmond, Guthrie, Perry, and Ponca City in Oklahoma and Arkansas City, Wichita, and Newton in Kansas. I was born in Norman, and grew up in Weatherford.

Lived in ok my whole life the high humidity and heat makes summers miserable I would use a different analogy though imagine someone has just taken a really hot shower in a tiny bathroom that’s what outside feels like all the time you almost feel like you should hold your breath because your brain half thinks it’s underwater it does snow but normally melts quickly turning the ground to sludge falls are great I’d say not cold between mid September and mid October we normally get a perfect 30 days of no air or heater needed great grilling weather springs are rainy as the Amazon but normally not hot like summer so it’s pleasant if you don’t mind getting wet tornadoes aren’t terrible like most think they cut very thin swaths of destruction and with Oklahoma population so spread out it’s rare for anything to get destroyed and when it does it’s normally just minor/severe roof dmg I’d be way more worried about hurricanes wildfires and earthquakes

Uh -- it most definitely snows in Oklahoma, (wherever she got that it doesn't is crazy wrong) but it's the ice that is the big problem in winter. Snow you can drive on, but it doesn't matter how many wheels you've got connected to the engine - none of them will get any traction on ice - and Oklahoma has plenty of it every year. Fall, IMO, is the absolute best season in Oklahoma - nice and mild - not either hot or cold as she claims here. Spring is quite beautiful too, but definitely the "change" season - being the most active tornado part of the year -- but tornadoes occur in the fall too - when the seasons are changing - as it's strong cold and warm fronts colliding with each other that create the violent things. Summer is quite nice, until the middle of July, and from there its a blast furnace for the next 45 days or so, which is why it would be very difficult to find anyone without AC in Oklahoma. Also; Braum's dairy farms and the independent dairy farms where they get their milk do NOT milk the cows by hand - (I hate it when someone implies Oklahoma is a backward state - as she did with the hand-milking thing) - it's all done very efficiently with milking machines that are much less bothersome to the cow than someone doing it by hand. Since most people in the entire USA spend most of their leisure time in front of the TV or on the computer, you can do that too in Oklahoma with all the same cable programming, etc, etc. So, along with plenty of movie theaters, common US entertainment is also quite common in Oklahoma - absolutely no different than anywhere else. And, she didn't mention the food - but Oklahomans KNOW their food - and there's every imaginable type of food available in most areas. Some of the best restaurants I have ever been in -- and I've been all over the US - has been in Oklahoma. So there's that too. Oklahoma is a great place to live, BUT -- it's definitely NOT for everyone -- AND - most Oklahomans would rather everyone just stay wherever they are, and leave Oklahoma exactly as the born-n-raised have come to know and love it.

Seriously all my life Oklahoma as a state has struggled to get it's act together, all in the shadow of Texas which definitely has it's act together, which is why Oklahoma has only been growing perhaps 1% year to year, businesses and people are constantly moving down to Texas...but Oklahoma is not alone, every state that borders Texas suffers from this, everything is centered in Texas and surrounding states are just standing still. I don't see this changing in Oklahoma too soon, the character of the state is, good enuff...which is why the state is the state that it's in...

Grove is a cool little lake city, if you’d like to send me an email at marciebillen@kw.com, I can answer some more of your questions
@PAULY-P
@PAULY-P 3 жыл бұрын
Most of the towns on Grand Lake are pretty good. Most people go to Grove because they have more things to do on the water and they have some cliffs you can jump from. The town northwest of Grove called Miami isn't too bad either but no lake that i know of. The towns around Eufaula lake to the south is really good too. Grove is considered the midwest while Eufaula starts the south. Oklahoma has 3 regions: Midwest, West, and the South. You can have desert like to the west, prairies, and mountains, foothills of the Ozarks, or big hills. State has alot to offer and is pretty affordable for housing and property taxes. Depending on the area, people seem to be very nice in most places. Oklahoma is very conservative, they do have a liberal stand your ground law and a conservative open carry. Very red state except for areas like Tulsa etc. Which isn't a bad thing! You will also see waterfalls like in Pawhuska to the north in the prairie and Davis to the south. Many waterfalls all over. The weather in most of the state can change alot with little to no warning. This video didn't mention the bad ice storms. I prefer the east side of the state by Arkansas because of the Ozarks and less tornadoes etc. Arkansas has its own beauty. Like northwest Arkansas (NWA). Fayetteville has alot going on. Home of the Razorbacks, can drink alcohol outside on the sidewalks, bike fest, many lakes near by, and Christmas time is beautiful. Hot Springs to the south isn't bad either. They have free spring water you can drink once it cools down. Mountain Valley Spring water is located there (that's what Elvis Presley drank lol). One of the best water you can drink. It used to be in a green glass bottle. You can live over the border in Oklahoma because homes seem to he a tad cheaper and work in Arkansas because they seem to pay alittle more. Sorry for the long post. Hope you got some knowledge of the areas.

@@juliusreed5273 there are significant reasons why corps move beyond your theory that Oklahoma is some terrible place.
