Living in Spain 6 Months - Since our arrival, week before Christmas 2015 we are settled in. Moved into our villa, our gear from the UK arrived, sort out the house and building insurance, sell our 2 RHD cars and now own a LHD car with Spanish plates, know how to clean the swimming pool and sorted out Private Health Insurance for us both. Still plenty to do, joined some groups - photography, cookery - Spanish Style, Learn to speak Spanish, Bowling and drone flying. Visiting more places and understand their history.

I´m a 73 years old spaniard who has lived in several countries , including Britain , USA and Canada, and now living in the Canaries. I`m currently watching the HOC, debates on brexit and really feel sad for the division of the british people. I believe Britain has much to offer to the EU, and will be a big lose to us living in it, if they decide to leave . Hope for the best, and thanks for your videos.

Many thanks, I moved before the Brexit and hear everyday on the UK news which just goes on and on! What ever the out come, there will be upset but hopefully everybody will move on. I'm not into politics but feel very welcome here and I hope any Spanish living in the UK have the same welcome - many thanks for watching and have a great week :)

I don't recall ever seeing this one before. That was such a bold move for you and Jan. I didn't realize what a big adjustment moving to Spain would be. I am sure you did extensive research before taking the plunge. I have watch some other videos, linked to this one, and it seems that there are some major adjustments required when moving there. But it does seem like a beautiful and wonderful place to live. I am so glad you are living your dream. I think you are amazing, and your vids make me smile, and I want to thank you for that. As always - Thank you Shaun.

Thank you Steve, my parents moved here nearly 30 years ago and always loved coming here. 10 years in the planing, choosing where to live and when! Losing my job was the push I needed!!! It's so much different than the UK but worth the move and still plenty of more things to sort before we are settled. Always enjoy reading your comments Steve - thank you for your support :)

Good review Shaun. Although we are 1000km south from you, fortunately, we rarely get the sort of temperatures you have now. Warmer in winter than you but cooler in summer. Just as well really because I don't do early mornings so can get up at a normal time and it still isn't too hot. I am not sure how old your wife is but are you aware that if she gets her state pension before you then you can both get cover under the Spanish system (you as a dependent). Sue is two years older than me so got her pension at 62 (I have another 4+ years to go) but I get cover for that reason. All that assumes the UK remains in the EU of course.
8 жыл бұрын
Thank you JP, didn't know that - thought you had summer all year! Used to get up early in the UK and got used to laying in during the winter months until now, dog wakes me up early for her walk! Don't mind really gets me up while the wife lays in. They changed the pension age for woman couple of years ago! My wife has to wait till she is 66, same as me before we get our pensions. Another 4 years yet - So we have to wait and see what happens on the 23rd. Many thanks for watching :-)

Thank you Chris, I've meet so many Spanish people flying drones but we both can't chat about them because of the language! it's such a pain as I've meet more people here than I did in the UK and they want to share the fun in flying. Hi Expat, my wife and I are starting to research a move to spain. Obviously the more info we can gather the better. We are both Brits but currently live in Canada. Not sure if I have missed it but a film on the cost of living for a couple would be great especially the cost of weekly groceries etc.
7 жыл бұрын
Hi Ella, everybody has different tastes and I don't think the supermarkets here would like me walking around with a camera (they have a privacy law). Once you are here, your food pattern will change. With all our bills, petrol, food and spending, we can live on 1.000 euros per month. Depending on where you live may also effect the costs. We own our property plus we have a pool. If you are thinking of renting then that would be extra. Hopefully I will bring more videos out in the year and thank you for your comment - many thanks for watching :)

I'm about to retire in 2019 with the wife........You talked about a sense of community in Spain but we have a sense of community in my neighborhood of 25 years. 1) It goes like this if we have a TORNADO and my neighbors stuff is blown all over the place ......then.....they are friendly and they want community were we spend days and weeks helping them. 2) Then they say fuck off and go back in their fixed up house when everything is ok. We may do the RV lifestyle as 1.2 million people go to Arizona desert and they have real community.......mind you Spain is more interesting with your video.

Hi Shaun We are looking at properties in callida and are coming out to campasol in september. The only thing that is worrying us is that camposol hasnt been adopted by mazarron council yet. Whats the feeling amongst you and your friends about this and the possibility of having a bill land on your doorstep for the repairs to the infastructure. Keep the videos coming they are great to see and informative...
8 жыл бұрын
Hi, the way I see it, we don't pay any council tax (UK was huge in Dorset) so if we do get a bill which I don't think we happen yet - if you know some information about Camposol it's in sectors (A,B,C & D) and each sector has it's own volunteer group that looks after the gardens and some fix the roads - bins are emptied 3 times a week - the list goes on! No one is worried as the council was given a load of money last year set aside for Camposol but never got it. When you do come, have a good look around and ask people what they think - I did and I'm here! Many thanks for watching :-)

Thanks for these videos. I retire in about 4-yrs time and would love to move to Spain. We used to take foreign exchange students when our kids were growing up and still keep in touch with a couple from Madrid and Malaga, very family orientated, lovely people. I think my main concerns revolve around 'Brexit' and the fact that as a diabetic i receive free prescriptions and i am not sure this would translate to living outside the UK? Also my wife doesn't drive, would this be a disadvantage in getting around in Camposol? Thanks again for the videos, very informative. Jeff

Thank you Jeff, at the moment we both have private health insurance and have to pay full price on prescriptions and we still don't know the out-come with the Brexit! We have sold up in the UK and now live here and thankfully have private pensions and not due for our state pensions for about another 4 years! Check out my Welcome to Camposol video which you may find helpful. There is a bus service here but a car is a most really to get about. Many thanks for watching :)

Very nice video! We also want to move to Southern Spain. We have an English Cocker Spaniel we want to take with us. He is full black like a solar panel. I see your dog is also black where he is most exposed to sun. How is your dog coping with the high temperature between May and September? Where does he spend his days between 10 and 6PM? Thanks

Thank you Perter, during the hot months I walk Bonnie early in the morning - just after 8am and again about 8pm when the ground is cooler. During the day it's cooler in the house but she does like sitting in the sun for a bit, plenty of water while out - don't take her in the car during the day. She copes very well - July August in the 40s!!! we also have a cool mat for her to lie on during the day. Many thanks for watching :)

Hi Shaun, I am going on holidays to Spain in a couple of weeks, i have heard from numerous sources that it is not advised to fly a drone in Spain because of the strict rules. What is your experience with the local police?
8 жыл бұрын
Hi marlijn, as far as I know it's the same all over Europe (same rules apply in the UK). I haven't had a problem with the local police - I'm on KZfaq, I don't hide myself, they know who I am. Just use common sense and enjoy your holiday in Spain :-)

Love the videos. I'm very jealous! :) I know it's not relevant to you directly, but what's the job situation like there? I'm not able to retire early :( cheers

Thank you Gareth, not very good at the moment here - if you speak Spanish that would be a bonus and if you work for yourself you need a licence plus insurance. There was going to be a big adventure park being built here but because of the down turn that's not going to happen - that would have made many jobs here. Maybe other places around Spain may be better. Many thanks for watching :-)
