Truckee is a small, charming mountain town located in the Sierra Nevada mountains of Northern California, about a 20-minute drive from North Lake Tahoe. It's known for its outdoor recreation, artsy boutiques and cafes, and historic roots.

Thanks for the enlightening update on living in Truckee @GabrielleViola. I've been going to Truckee for years as a get away from the SF Bay Area and I absolutely love it there. great job! its nice you mentioned its proximity to lake tahoe, because tourists from the bay always seem to think Truckee IS lake tahoe, and really its not anywhere near the lake. I think if you count second home owners and not real locals , there are actually more locals in south shore, and Truckee is more touristy to me, as everyone I know from the bay area goes to Truckee on highway 80 vs the south shore, but all of lake tahoe is super touristy for sure. thanks! great videos! glad things are working out for you.

Another Pro of Truckee - there are so many more lakes off the beaten path. Check out the free kayaks at Independence, Webber is another nice lake. And miles and miles of off roading….list goes on.- great videos!

I would say carson city and reno are more afforable, and Truckee is the most expensive for sure ..south lake in the middle

I think I enjoyed living in South Lake Tahoe the most if I had to chose, your right there in Lake Tahoe and theres a good amount to do

Bring bucket loads of money. Our son sold his house on Donner Lake and moved his young family to Reno, NV. He said it was like getting a 15% to 20% raise after years in CA.

Some of the high pricing apart from housing is driven by proximity to Marta’s Camp.

I'm considering moving to South Lake Tahoe this summer, what are the pros and cons of Truckee vs SLT out of curiosity if you have time. I have a family of four, a 13 and 15 year old, if that makes a difference and I will have the Epic pass for skiing. Great video! And why did you decide to move?

I love catching the inversions on Donner Lake in the morning or driving up to Donner Lake Overlook..it so pretty

Being a native newyorker, I love the natural beauty of the area. If Truckee was in NV , I would live there myself. Alas, it is California. I'm never living under the communist again.

I'm just glad Reno is in Nevada since it is close to the border. Truckee is a 30-45 minute drive away. Hopefully some day I can move back to the Reno area.
