They had a story in mind before we even started the three day shoot. They thought it would be more dramatic to portray the dad (me) as a hard charging fear driven "prepare" and the middle son as reluctant, bored, and/or resentful. Hey, free quizno's sandwiches and a chance to get word of the school out there. At the time we didn't realize they were going to edit out the community and school aspect.

Michael Douglas yeah I'd suggest getting your hands on some guns, I totally understand not relying on them but having a weapon and literally only using it with the presence of an attacker with a gun of there own, a throwing axe can out duel someone with a gun but having the real deal on deck is probably a good idea. People will be able to make there own ammo, and homemade projectiles as well so having a surplus of ammo and a firearm or two would be very very intelligent.

All that Tomahawk stuff is great and all, but the person has to be a certain distance away, and also I'm pretty sure 36 bullets is a lot better than three axes that may or may not hit. Also, that "throwing stick" is not nearly as powerful as a shotgun. It's a stick.

Bobcat, Grey Fox, and Coyote hunt at night and I know where each is and their patterns based on the time of night and the season. It is available to anyone willing to invest the time outdoors. "this is as powerful as a shotgun" You mean to tell me a 12 gauge loaded with 00 buck has the same force as a stick thrown sideways? What berries are you smoking?
@naturementoring
@naturementoring 6 жыл бұрын
I'm basing it on impact results. Debarking a tree, dismembering a point area target with the same effect up to and including a red fox and/or a raccoon, or felling a target immediately. Comparable stopping power and range as my Benelli 12g? No. Berries Native to this area used in smoking mixtures for medicinal or recreational purposes. I hope this helps.

Maine Primitive What 12g ammo? Beanbags? If your 12 gauge only debarks a tree, then there's some problems with that ammo. 9 pellet 00 buck has about 1550 ft lbs of energy, and you're telling me that a stick can do the same thing?

We attempted to share skills via this medium that would inspire folks toward self reliance and resilient community bit were met at every turn with comments like, "our audience doesn't want . . ." What we did get on film was left on the editing floor. The finished product is the result of a three day "contest" of stories. Ultimately, the producer and editor have the final say.

I actually respect this guy for what he is doing. In teaching his children about what he believes is important, he is teaching them valuable skills that they actually may be able to use later in life, or for example if they are on a trip with their friends and get lost with the woods. He may be a little crazy, but I don't think what he is doing is completely a waste of time, at least. I wish I knew half of that stuff -_- it's also allowing the kids to be physically active! pretty cool

There is definitely a difference between boy scouts prepared, and this. This is paranoia, and weird obsession. The deer skin shirt just makes this dude even stranger. This is 2014, not 1814. This dude needs at least one big dog and a 12 gauge. That would upgrade his plan extensively. I'm sorry, but if someone tries to attack me, I'm not gonna go mountain man on them and throw a stick at them.

We don't live in fear. We have a blast and our interactions with our landscape and community give us more than "survival" level experiences. Each child has grown to be healthy and happy doing what they love and living well within their means. Our dogs were not featured and it is never a good idea to share what arms you may or may not posses. I hope you can come to the school one day and see how far off the producers were in portraying what we share.
@primitiveskills

Interesting, with which weapons platform are you referring to sir? I prefer a .308 Winchester on an armalite platform for punching through brush, but indoors nothing beats a shotgun and knife. Small arms are great back ups and a .45 in 1911is nice, however there are a few models that have a tactile method of detecting a round in the chamber and are easier on the move, specifically with injury drills and rapid clearing. Again, bring your best toys to the party. We would love to show you the difference between reality tv stories and reality, or, better yet, youtube chairborne rangers and actual dirt time. Next.

It’s all the writers, dude doesn’t actually think like this. He’s basically just a survivalist and has been on a couple podcasts. You gotta realize on a show called ‘Doomsday Preppers’ you need some pretty ‘exciting’ narrative.

this guy is quite strange, but his methods are actually really solid. he still needs firearms to even the playing field for the first few years. he also needs to move out of the suburbs. but his bird knowledge and his bushcraft-like grip on survival is pretty valuable.

Hi I'm Prepper Zan I currently live here in Houston Texas & I'm documenting the challenges we're now facing due to the Texas Winter Storm. There is contaminated water, thousands who are now homeless, and so many people still without lights even after a week and a half after the Storm. I have many videos on my Channel of what we're experiencing as Texans!
