I drive my third GEN year-round. They are awesome in the winter time! But you have to make sure you keep the salt off of it in the winter time. Salt is the worst enemy. If it's below zero I tend to use my block heater to help keep it warm for start up. I usually let my truck cool down until the exhaust temp is around 300° which doesn't take long at all. I lived in Pennsylvania for some time with the truck and in the winter time I’d plug in the block heater most nights that the low temp was under 40. This brought my coolant temp to about 85 degrees for the next days startup so I could fire it up and take off a minute later. I also found that the truck drove great in the snow although as direct current mentions above road salt causes rust on these trucks and my truck has suffered a bit for those winters up there. I actually ran 15w40 oil year round although I’d recommend 5w40 in Minnesota for the winter.

@@OutpostCTD Thanks for the help. Have you ever had an issue with your block heater, the one in my skid steer started leaking last year, ended up being a bit of a pain to replace. I guess my other concern would be are these trucks becoming to much of a collectors item and maybe I should keep it nice, my truck is in good condition with only 90k miles. @@DirectCurrent4u Thanks for the reply, how has your truck faired against the salt and chemicals? Any electrical issues from the salt spray. Also just curious hows the heat/defrost work on yours when it get real cold -20s

@@The_MM_Life I haven’t had or seen any issues with the bloc heaters before. And you are right low mile 3rd gens in good shape are really sought after these days. If it was me I’d do what I can to keep it out of harms way on the roads but I wouldn’t go as far as parking the truck for the whole winter. I’d still drive it when it’s dry or when it snows and you need the traction but when it’s slushy I think that’s the worst.
