Hi Chelsea I live in Germany and think it's great that you make Spätzle. You can make the Spätzle mixture a little, not much, thinner. To make your work easier, you can place the Spätzle press on the edge of the pot and then press it. What's also super delicious is frying the spaetzle in butter and sprinkling with cinnamon and sugar. Warm greetings from Germany Claudia

I grew up in Bavaria, Germany. We make German Spaetzle with water and not with milk and ate it with roast and gravy or made Cheese-Spaetzle. It is like a casserole with layers of Spaetzle and cheese and on top end with a layer of cheese, bake it in the oven for around 30 minutes. We serve it with potato salad. So yummy :)

Hi Chelsea, I from southern Indiana and your husband's name Dan and ranch sounds the same but pasta is definitely different from how we pronounce it here. I do watch other videos where they live in Canada and your pronunciation is how they say pasta. Definitely a regional difference but nothing to be concerned about. I really enjoy your videos, and very nice new furniture. It really brightens up the room.

I am a retired Drama teacher who taught in high school in South Africa. I live and taught in schools in Durban. When I was studying Drama our lecturer taught us never to be phased by any persons accent, it is the rich tapestry of who you are as a person and reflects where you come from, so everyone who listens to you will know where you are from and there is no real right way to say anything unless you want to be phonetically correct. I enjoy your channel and I listen to you with great joy.

Thanks to this video, you have identified a “mystery” item in my mother’s collection of kitchenware. She passed away when I was 16. I’m 80, now. All these decades I’ve kept this odd thing that looked to me like a press for a giant heads of garlic (whole head…not clove 😂). Will wonders never cease. This was wonderful! 👌. So happens her father’s family were from Germany.😅.

Oh, and the machine has some „teeth“ on the side opposite to the handles, so you can lean it on the pot, like you would put a wooden spoon on the diagonal of the pot. This way is essier to push. And I would make the dough a bit runnier.

One of my most treasured possessions is the Bible my grandparents used daily. The margins and any extra pages are filled with dates, notes and comments about special scriptures. I love reading them and trying to imagine why certain passages were so special to them. Thank you for sharing your life with us. Don’t change how you say words. We each speak in different dialects depending on where we grew up and where we live now. We are uniquely made by God as His special treasure . A-Ohio

Hi, I'm in NE Texas, born and raised for almost 65 years and I've been told I have a heavy southern accent. My brothers name is Dan and when you say it, I hear Dan. I also hear ranch clearly. Just your Canadian way of saying pasta (I say pausta) and you say house (I say howse) and about sounds like you're saying aboot, lol, there's some others but I can't think of them now. But I love listening to you! I have an old friend from Canada and I love how she pronounces words differently. It's what makes the world go round, eh? 😊 Had to come back and edit to say your living room is beautiful!!! I love it! And the heirlooms, wow! How amazing to have such treasures! I have my mom's first Bible. It is very special to me.

I have my dads moms (my grandma) porcelain lace draped dolls that she made back in the late 50's. My gram opened one of the first ceramic studios in oregon. And she was such an artist. She china painted plates, which i have quite a few. She also oil painted pictures, i have 2 of them. And she also painted pictures using watercolors. I have 2 of those also. My favorites are the lace draped dolls. My curio cabinets house those and some of the plates. I also have a fan that my favorite uncle made me when i was around 7. He whittled the fan out of 1 piece of wood. And it has a handle out of the wood then it has the fan blades coming out of that handle all in one piece, its about 1 ft. Long. I also have a sword and a dagger that my dad whittled for me that i have in there too. These are very precious to me. It was so cool to see your beautiful precious items from your family. Thank you for sharing them with us.

Midwest state here. My mom made them in ham broth with pieces of leftover ham in the broth. She didn't have a press so she used 2 spoons and made them more like dumplings. We ate them in bowls, served with some of the broth. Oh that salty goodness! I don’t know where this idea originally came from but it's absolutely my favorite food ever. I'm from Michigan but lived in Germany for 3 years 36 years ago. I fell in love with Spatzle when I was there. I live a low carb diet but when I have a cheat day this is what I make. I learned to make this from The Joy of Cooking cookbook which adds a pinch of nutmeg. I also like it as a side to slow roasted meat with gravy on top. The restaurant in the village I lived in served veal, spatzle, gravy and peas in a little cast iron kettle. All I can say Perfection!! Their wild boar was also wonderful.

My Mom was German. That kitchen item was called a potato ricer in our family. We made spaetzle as a looser dough. We put the dough on a dampened wooden cutting board and cut pieces into the boiling water. Think of misshapened marbles. We browned bread crumbs in butter and tossed with the spaetzle, which was our favorite way to eat it.

I have lived in Virginia since birth and live near rural areas with country accents and my mom had a hint of northern accent her family originated from Ohio. So, when you say roof, instead of smooth sound on the vowels yours is like a hard sound. It cracks me up because I was watching another homestead style youtuber and when he installed his solar system, he said it how you do. I have never laughed so hard for over 30 minutes. My mom's mother said metal and bottle with a "d" instead of "t", I would always get the look from mom when I started to giggle. As always thank you for sharing your world so I can escape mine for a few. Hope you and your family are healthy and happy.

I'm in the Midwest of the US, and many times in dealing with customers, I have found that the vocal similarity of Don and Dawn are so hard to discern, especially on phone calls. I once had a job at a bank where I had one of each, and so many times, we would send calls to the wrong person. I know there are parts of the country where it is not hard to hear the difference in the two, the pronunciation is the key. Loved watching you make the spaetzle. (I honestly don't care how you pronounce it, with my Great Grandpa we learned it as Spatesull, but that could have also been some Dutch influence) It's been a long time since I have had that as a dish. YUM!!! Whoo hoo about the furniture! :) Bet the kids are equally as excited!

Hi, have fun with the Spaetzle. The Spaetzle with cheese and fried onions are a bit like a version of "Mac'n Cheese" (very popular as a dish in the German/Austrian/Swiss skiing areas). Try to incorporate into the dough mashed veggies like spinach, pumpkin, or carrots - or herbs like wild garlic. Further you can use the press not only for Spaetzle but for mashed potatoes or potatoes dumpling dough, but please press trough the peeled and cooked potatoes as long as they are warm. Kids will love it if you use the press for a spaghetti sundae: Press through vanilla ice cream, add strawberry sauce and finish of with white chocolate shavings. Enjoy!

I am from the Northeast and you are NOT saying anything incorrectly! Every region has a right to pronounce the way that works for them. To my ears you sound Canadian and thats absolutely ok! I doubt someone in the South would like to be told by a New Yorker that they are pronouncing words incorrectly and to change the way they speak, and vice versa. You do you!

It’s beautiful furniture. You need a rug all your furniture will sit on. Also raise your curtains rods to the ceiling. You will need new curtains, so they are touching the floor. Not high waters. What incredible memories in your cabinet. I have all my treasures in my corner cabinet as well.

I am extremely deaf and use very loud Bluetooth headbands to watch utube. Even then, God help me if there’s no captioning! That being said, your speaking/enunciation is so precise, I don’t have to struggle to understand you. It makes it very relaxing to listen. I sang with Sweet Adeline’s womens barbershop for over a decade, and they stress vowels and pronunciation. That’s what I get from you naturally 😊 And your spatzle reminds me of what we called egg rivels growing up. We always had them in our potato soup…always made with water, not milk.

So I grew up in Germany, my mom was German and my eldest brother still lives there. The correct pronunciation is spa(long A)tzle( pronounced la). But you are so cool who cares how you pronounce it. I have never seen this product used as a spätzle maker, only as a ricer for potatoes. That doesn’t mean anything. If you Google Spätzle makers, they will show you what is usually used. Love you!
