That's because unlike most dudes in this era Kyle was a MAN and handled his shit! Love how Kyle and Overton were not written to be emasculated simps on the show. They were intelligent, good hearted, strong willed MEN who could be friends with women and respect them but were in no way gonna be cuckhold by them either.

T.C. Carson once said in an interview about Living Single that he supports the show's theme being about women empowerment. But he won't tolerate it if the show feels the need to project black men as fools. Consequently, seasons 2~4 portrays Kyle and Overton as smooth, smart and innocent, chivalrous, country yet wise respectively. The relationship between Kyle and Max shows that women can fear commitment and be immature too just as men.

@TheHattaru I loved Max the Maverick. She was so insecure and afraid but didn't allow her negatives to overpower her. I think she felt too much and was afraid someone would take her kindness for weakness. So she overcompensated, thereby coming across as arrogant and unfeeling and couldn't let Kyle in. Too his credit, he wasn't going carry her baggage, and his that's why he let her know she should grow up.

@@1x4- when laugh tracks are too on the nose or on automatic, it can detach you from the show and take away the reality of the scene. However, this show was filmed in front of a real live studio audience and you can tell a difference from this laughter and genuine reactions.

I loved Kyle for teaching people how to be a real soul to oneself, and kept rooting for Max to get out of her own way for gaining real love and contentment. They were both great characters in their own right. There needs to be more, "smart TV" out there to teach people these characteristics we sorely need in society again.

Kyle was being serious about wanting a relationship and all Max was wanted to do was play games. You could obviously see he was at his breaking point with her. Max kept playing so Kyle ended that shit because he knew it wasn’t going anywhere beyond sex. You could instantly see the regret on her face but I’m glad they ended up back together in the end.

And then we discover that Kyle was the actual donor (I can still hear Overton in my head saying, *"Oh My!"* over and over again as they discovered the truth 😆). At the end, Kyle and Max DO get together. And then a few years later, there was an episode of the show *Half & Half* where Essence Atkins' character wants to work for Max. She meets Max, Kyle and their daughter. It was wonderful to see the Barker Shaw family again!

I love Max but once she and Kyle got together it was exhausting to watch her keep him at bay all the time. It was both in line with her character arc and anticlimactic.

Sad because my mom always compared and was viewed as someone like Max, she developed a drinking probably and eventually got clean but she is single to this day picking up the pieces. Me as her child, had to watch all the stress and agony that she out herself through and it hurt. But I’m glad she’s on the right path
