Lymphoedema is a long term debilitating condition which affects a large number of the population. Often patients are left misdiagnosed and unaware of the treatments available. As part of our program to increase awareness of this condition and to highlight the treatments available, we would like to share the story of Doreen, who for a long time has been suffering with Lymphoedema and kindly tells us of her experience.

Thanks for the video. Thank you too Doreen for your story. I have had Ltmphodema for over 20 years and like you I was told to lose weight and elevate my leg also was given Lasix to get rid of the fluid. I evetually suffered from a DVT. But still just went on doing the same thing. I might add that my doctors really were not all that helpful. I got to the point where. I could only wear baggy leg pants because the swelling was so bad and the pain just kept getting worse. So I finally took matters into my own hands and went o You-Tube to find some more information. I began by getting rid of the fluid by drinkind more water, wearing my compression socks during the day and wearing a Velcro sleeve at night. I also started to take care of my skin as well using a good moisturizer daily. It took a good month but I lost over 12 pounds in fluid and my calf measured 4 inches smaller. I also cut way back on salt and sugar. I just started to use mesage therapy as well. Im also exercising , more walking. I have lost 25 pounds in 3 months. I went to my primary care doctor who is happy with what I have accomplished but I wish I could say that I got all this advice from her but I didnt. I guess if you really want to get this under control you must do this for yourself. 😊❤

Hi I’m Doreen in the film I had my knee operation that went really well , unfortunately Lymphadeama does not go away but with the help of the LympAssist machine it is helping me to keep it under control and I have not had any breaking down of the skin or cellulitis in my legs since using the LympAssist machine, it also keeps my skin soft and helps me to walk . Could not recommend this machine more

In 2013, right after my lymph node biopsy and before any chemo, my left leg ballooned. Neither of my hematologists knew what it was. I had to inform them! 😡 Leg returned to normal after chemo 2014. 2018 I started having left leg infections and now it's swollen and VERY painful. Compression garments and some physical therapy sessions helped a bit. Just recently my leg swelled a bit and is VERY painful. This time though it's not going down, in spite of the therapy and lymphatic massages and compression pants/socks. I'm trying to get one of those auto inflate leg machines to reduce the swelling and PAIN. Dr. has me on Morphine and I'm about to start Oxycontin. I still workout at the gym 4-5x a week but want to be able to walk my dog again! 😥

The pain of this illness is not something I would wish on my worst enemy. I met Dr Iyhere on youtube, so I seeked his counsel on Agioedema. He made me realize that despite the fact that they say it was incurable and that it could only be managed. He would try his best. And I am grateful so much for trying your best sir.

Wow, I never heard of lymphedema until just recently about one month show when my dr referred me to several specialist to rule things out as to why I gained over 60 pounds in 4 months time and I have developed ulcers on my ankles. One of the specialist, a cardiologist told me that it’s not edema and there is nothing wrong with my heart I’m just fat. He also asked if I have animals at home and I have two cats and he suggested these wounds on my ankles are from bites or scratches from animals. I have more to say about his arrogance and thank god I kept searching for answers because I went to a vascular surgeon and she recommended compression stockings and in three weeks I went down a size I just got my machine for pumping my legs and cannot wait to start using it. I have also done a Lot of research and followed some tricks that are really healthful and while it’s tiring I am committed to and work tirelessly to elevate these symptoms to be me again. Good luck to all of you and thank you for spreading the word. All specialists in any field of medicine should be informed as well.

I am so thankful for your video. Also to you Doreen ❤ i so empathise with your condition and your symptoms and how its effecting your life. Im so sorry your in so much pain. Its miserable. I had breast cancer three months after losing my mum. I had cared for her for four years. After chemotherapy and a full masectomy and lymphnode removal i started to get constant skin infections. I also had terrible swelling all over my body. The pain also and the stiffness was excruciating. I also suffer from cellutis. I have chroinic fatigue & live with chronic pain. I also can hardly walk. Ive had no help with my lymphedema, cellutis ive been told its depression. I am in shocked how ive been treated with this condition and how doctors failed to diagnose me with this & the cellutis. Ive now got PTSD due to trying to get help for 5 years. I am on a diet but its hard to maintain because of inflation. I cant work and my life is now resulted in doing nothing as its to painful to move. My arms are so swollen and my stomach is too. My calves ankles and feet are burning feel on fire all the time. I wish you well and all the best thank you again for sharing your story ❤

Losing weight isn't going to help. I've seen skinny people with this disease. The lymphatic system is damaged and doesn't function as it was meant to. There are some drug trials going on at Stanford, but who knows if and when they will become available. It's a constant struggle. And manual wraps are so difficult...

My cousin has this disease. Can you explain what makes it painful? Is it the excess weight from it..? Or the legs rubbing together that's painful
@Deborahtunes

@@lorenalorena7078 ~ For me, the only time it hurts is if a lot of pressure it put on my legs. Such as if I stoop down. Because of the lymphatic fluid in my legs. Or if I bang my legs on something. Doesn't have to be hard. A slight hit can be painful...

I am James Osborn a 69 year old man, who was diagnosed with Edema although I have heard people speak of it. I never imagined that at this age it would be involved in my case. I met Dr Iyhere online on youtube, through the help of my son. After I took his drugs I have been relieved.

Nutrition matters. She stated making tea.. how much sugar and milk go into each cup of tea? What does her daily food intake look like? How much protein? Fibre and fat?? It’s clear she likes carbs..carbs draw in fluid and hold it. I feel for her!

Sorry its a damaged lymphatic system. Yes food changes help but makes no difference to toxins that build up due to the lymphnodes not being able to filter them. This build up causes swelling which looks like fat but it's not. Cellutis also causes inflammation in the skin. Diet definitely helps but swelling is unfortunately part of this.

Food can affect this to a degree, but taking the sugar out of her tea is not going to fix this in the slightest.
