Love your reviews, i've been away from biking for eleven years ,and i have one of these being delivered this friday. It's the looks of the bike , the test ride ,and your review that sealed the deal, thanks TMF.

Got the 2018 model - nice bike, handles brilliant and plenty of power, what isnt so great is the vibrating mirrors at higher speeds, cant always make out what that is behind you. Put mine into sport mode to do 200 motorway miles one morning and wow - you feel the difference, handling and everything goes from very good to just great.

I have had this model for six months, ridden everyday and it hasn't missed a beat. Comfy and fast on motorways, flickable on back roads and is a surprisingly good filterer. Missenden flyer you need to buy one!

Hi again TMF, been following these reviews with interest as I own a 2012 1050SE. Not unsurprisingly there are a lot of similarities that you've picked up on. Re the fuel range, this is being constantly measured and is caculated on the current speed/ load on the engine. Hence why it increased at motorway speed. For me the things that really need updating on this bike are the dash layout, moving the control buttons onto the handlebar and switching the cruise control to the left side. Also shaft drive would be nice too, but maybe that would push up the price too much. Love the bike though and yet another great review. Keep up the good work! 👍

On a less facetious note, a very good observation about illumination of controls, the absence of which is curious. I also had the idea, now in the public domain, of illuminating the side stand area. On my 3 bikes, the little spigot is located in entirely different locations wrt the foot rests. It's quite embarrassing to drop the bike for want of putting the side stand down.

Hi TMF, love your channel, great reviews, great style! I own a 2015 Triumph tiger 800 XCX and will be replacing it next year. Love the bike, but it's time for something new. Been doing a lot of testrides myself, but always nice to hear someone else's opinion. I'm a tall chap (6'2") and need my bike mainly for commuting highway miles (100km a day, all year thru). I've kinda narrowed it down to either the KTM 1090, the Honda AT, or this tiger sport. I've ridden the former two and loved the KTM most, but I do hear some words on the street that they aren't the most reliable (words of someone who has had an 8 year KTM sponsorship and riding these bikes many miles in all conditions). Anyway, I was wondering how you would stack this threesome in terms of all round best bike. I have yet to ride the tiger sport myself, and I will, but winter is upon us here in Belgium so I'll get to that beginning 2018. A lot of people tell me to get a shaft drive bike... I get that, I'm lazy as well, but a 1200cc bike is too much I think...perhaps I should also try the Ducati 950 multistrada... Which one I buy will probably come down to which dealer hands me the best price...(shrek!) Love to hear from you. Regards and keep it up!

Hi to TMF. I'm new to your channel and like it loads. Had an 09 tiger myself, loved it, did 36000 mls. in four years, but to heavy to move around in my garden "70 years young" regularly got more the 225 out of a tankful. The tank range varies from town to distance. Have now gone down to a 650 vstrom but love your review on the bobber so may go back to Triumph. Only thing that puts me of is the fuel range which is a shame. Keep it shiny side up.

lovely informative video as always, I prefer the explorer, main stand and shaft drive, every thing else much the same, after about 100ml, i like to get off and stretch my legs anyway, as far as cruise control goes I love it, especially when eating up the miles on motorways,

Fun fact: this 1050 is the same bike also used by "Bike World" review in france (reg match!) ☺️. As for your review, brilliant, very helpful, especially the tip about being top heavy that everyone keeps saying. Wish I watched reviews before my test ride, I dropped my demo getting it out of the dealership parking doing a right-angle turn! 🤦 Glad I had taken out excess cover for the test ride! That didn't put me off the test ride though, as I just like the look of T1050 over say Tiger 800, even if T800 was so effortless to ride. I'm still on the fence, as I haven't given up on T1050 yet and mainly T800 haven't won me over yet!

TMF - Great review as always! I currently own a 2010 Tiger 1050 SE with 65300km's on it and not missing a beat BUT do like the Tiger Sport for the changes they've done to it ie. lights & gearbox and a about to pull the trigger on a new Silver one. I don't trust 'em! Unless you are just dusting the bike (and even then I wouldn't do it) you are definitely going to put fine scratches on your paint work, the only answer is rinse gently first, then PH neutral soap and the "2 bucket" method - over the years I have learned there are no short cuts!!

Hi TMF, I have a question regarding pillion carrying and preloading suspension Where is the pre-load adjuster located on this particular bike, how easy was it to adjust and how much did you need to adjust to accomidate your pillion? Cheers J
@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 6 жыл бұрын
I didn't bother adjusting it personally, I like to get my feet down firmly with a pillion so let the additional weight sit the bike down more (I know you're not meant to do that). The adjuster is (IIRC) the C Spanner type above the rear suspension spring....

Beautifully produced and enjoyable review as usual - great that you included the every day things like fuelling up and washing, and I'm going to bashfully steal the simple tip of stuffing something in the exhaust end to stop the water spilling down the end can rather than worrying about pools of water in my pipes - thanks! A bit disappointed that Triumph are still putting that (in my opinion) tacky silver surround on the clocks. Reminds me of 80's midi systems. Although it makes me sound like a typical, terrible armchair engineer casting negatives on a great piece of engineering, but I'd guess (and hope) they're developing a proper update to their engines and frames that'll arrive soon. This bike looks like a refresh to an old (but undoubtedly good) bike. Still doesn't tempt me away from my ancient VFR.

Any more comments as am really considering the GS . But just love the 1050 sporty look and I don’t ride as often as I do, and in places the GS is suppose to go (also am already on a tiger XCX) . Hence am reconsidering the 1050. What about power and pull from stationary any comments and it’s flickability .. ? Any details vs the GS will be helpful. Thxs and great reviews btw.

Real world reviews are what us riders are really after. Who wants a journo reading a spec sheet and then blasting around a track. Absolutely useless to a prospective owner. This on the other hand is on the money. Take notice Triumph this man is putting across the bike to it's market better than a host of journos could manage. The all round capability of the bike make it a big contender for a rider with just the one bike. I like it a lot. Cheers Andy.

I owned a 2012 model. Brilliant engine but as always too dam high!! I was on tip toes!! How did you find the new one for height? I had to get the lowering bracket and lower seat, I'm 5ft 8ins. Also the lights were basically so bad that a candle would have been brighter!! Again I got a light kit that improved it no end. And the final problem was the chain guard was to small so the back of the bike got lathered in oil. They wanted £90 for a oil guard extension!! These problems shouldn't cost the owner, it is poor design. Great vid though dude ATB Colin
@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 7 жыл бұрын
I found the height OK - but then I'm used to riding my old 2009 model and Triumph lowered the seat since then (when they brought the "Sport" out).....I think that was around 2014 so yours may still have had the higher seat. New lights work brilliantly too. Lovely bike with a beautiful engine...I miss mine in some ways!

Nice to see someone doing an ownership style review, top work. That 36 psi in the rear tyre was a bit lower than recommended. I never take much time to oil my chain driven bikes as I usually purchase one of the auto-chain oilers instead of a centre stand. Have you tried a one? With one fitted you very rarely have to adjust your chain once past a new chains initial stretch. I've had very good results with a Tutoro oiler which had a pendulum (motion) operated drip valve which required no wiring in or connecting to a vacuum port like Scottoilers do for those not wanting to get to technical with their bikes.

I've only ever heard good things about Scottoilers (or similar) - personally I like dry lube so tend to stick with frequent cleaning and applications of that (would be different if I was an all weather commuter I suspect)....
@stevecade857
@stevecade857 7 жыл бұрын
TheMissendenFlyer The trouble with dry lube is dirt sticks to it and turns it into grinding paste. Oilers, although a little messy, avoid that by flinging off over time taking the grit with it. If you clean your bike often like you do it's no problem.

Great review as usual TMF! The fuel gauge on most new Triumphs will always take a short while to update after a fill up. The ECU needs to see the clutch switch and the gear lever used a number of times before the fuel gauge resets. Also if the tune is updated this will reset the fuel gauge to empty until the ECU sees that the clutch & gear lever have been used for up to a couple of miles. The Tiger Sport would still be my choice of all of last year's new Bikes. Hope the crew at Hinkley lend you the new Street Triple when it's available!

Hi TMF. I appreciate this is an older video. I want to test your memory, good sir. After selling my MT07, im wanting to get into some touring. My budget is 7k, and I have narrowed the final 2 contenders down to the 2017 Tracer 900GT 2017 Tiger 1050 Sport. I only ride solo. I'm happy both have cruise control as that was a fundamental option. Just wanted to get your view on both and what you'd sway more towsrds? I appreciate it's a while since you've probably ridden either. I'm hoping to get out on both on a back to back test in the coming weeks.

I bought a 1050 Sport new in 2017. Some say it’s too heavy, but I think it’s manageable (for me at least…I’m 180cm). In recent years, I’ve been considering selling it, and getting onto a T120 Bonneville, which from all reports is a fantastic bike, but I don’t think I can get rid of the Tiger; it’s a fantastic bike in it’s own right. It has served me well both as a commuter and a tourer, and as the later, eating up the KM down here in Australia, pillion on the back, it’s brilliant. By far the best $20000AUD I’ve spent.

Cheers SImon - I personally would take the Tiger Sport over the R1200RS any day - I just prefer the looks and engine - the S1000XR is a far more performant and advanced bike (electronically speaking) but it is ugly to my eyes and of course a lot more expensive once spec'd up....
