Hello Mr Chops, It's that Australian fellow who moved from a ZX14 to a Rocket GT at the age of 50, last September, after seeing your first review of this bike. I test rode, I laughed, I cried, I wee'd a little. What a big old pussycat. I adore this bike. It has serious teeth and claws but is very gentle if you want it to be. I have named mine 'Thumper' which just fell out of my mouth and stuck! Only done about 3,000 Covid Kilometres as I live in Melbourne, Victoria, the Lockdown State. We just recently clicked over 250 days in full lockdown across 6 Lockdowns. I know you have been through so much over there. It's heartbreaking. But thank God for bikes and moments of freedom, be they fleeting!! Well thanks again. You were partially responsible for my new relationship..... You're like a Matchmaker.... For bikies.... Adrian V.

In the 1970's Australia's Holden car maker produced a sports coupe which has a 427 big block Chev engine. The gear box was automatic but it only had two gears. I ride an XV1900 Yamaha Roadliner and when I first got it a few years ago the torque at 167 Nm was completely addictive. I think I know how you feel when you say you just can't stop wanting to roll it on or blast past a line of cars in a few seconds from walking pace.

I have had two Vmax 1200...Honda Blackbird...Hayabusa.... Rocket 3 2.3Lt and Vmax 1700. Guys, I picked up my Rocket R3 today and I have to say, this is the smoothest and best bike that I have ever ridden. The new gearbox blew me away. Don't believe me - take one for a test ride. Simply, my best bike to date. Great review Lamb Chop! Thanks! Just to add - I have 5 years NCB / 50 Years old / No convictions or claims and live in London. Out of 20 insurance companies my cheapest insurance cover was £900....Better call Bemoto lol

With that much power, the looks of a cruiser/bobber, and a whisper quiet exhaust, it's a bit of a sleeper. Most sport bikes absolutely scream when they're wide open and you can hear them for miles. This thing would be on you, past you and gone and leave you wondering what just happened. Beautiful machine. I understand the complaints about the docile exhaust, but not drawing attention to yourself when you feel like a giggle has got to be a plus.

Great review. I had a test ride on one of these, the GT cruiser pegs version. It's a monster ! Riding it, I felt like a cross between Batman, Judge Dredd and the Terminator. It is the kind of bike I could imagine them riding. I found it really comfortable and easy to ride, the positon was really good for me. It is literally a rocket propelled arm chair. As a third of fourth bike if I was loaded with cash, then I'd have one. The only issues I had is the weight in very low speed corners, I was a bit wobbly. But I only had an hour on it. Guess I'd get better if I had a longer ride. Once above a few miles and hour it was dead easy again. The things that will stop me from buying one, is well it is more cash than I've got for a bike, and I'd need to move house to get a garage, because I couldn't manoeuvre it into my current bike shed in my back garden. Oh hum !

ahh , and yeah, my stats aren't as good as "Nigel", I'm older, 0 endorsements currently, but have only had a bike licence for just over a year, and 1 year NCB, so insurance for a Rocket would be astronomical (pun intended ;) )

I believe Orca GT was the originator of the reviewing methods TMF uses including how hard it is to maneuver a bike around in a parking lot as well as commenting on mirrors and such. He was a great youtube reviewer and fun to watch as well. He stopped a while back but still miss watching his banter while riding in london as well as his many many bike reviews. Here's a link to his old trailer vid kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fM9oq8ai2dfcZ2g.html

It's really more like a naked bike and a muscle cruiser combined. I really like what Triumph has done to their entire lineup. They didn't pigeon hole themselves with just cruisers or sports bikes. I'd like to see what the new Tiger 900 has to offer.

yeah but me think the Diavel, like the other Ducati bikes, is a much more nervous and ADHD troubled kind of bike ... more a milk shake machine than a real powerfull soft driving bike .... power yes ok, but pleasure easy driving ?? the engine (desmo) is much more nervous, cracking clattering irritating ... less cool, more Isle of Mannish tt ...

Personally I prefer metal-shinny and chromed bike looks ranging from handle bar, wheels to drive shaft, etc. Today most bike manufacturers have adopted the black-out design theme for most bike models to attract younger buyers. I wish they can go back to the old days with a lot of shinny chrome parts incorporated into their bike design.

Great review and a really interesting bike, you are very good at conveying the emotion of riding it. However the cost of that excitement is high fuel consumption, the bike has to carry the weight of an overpowered engine around so it’s fuel efficiency is bad. My (incredibly underpowered to most people) NC750X will be returning at least 60mpg at a steady 80mph - probably more. Recent ride outs with a lot or motorway driving and A-Road overtaking have ended up around 70-75mpg for the tank. I notice fuel consumption is higher in the winter too. Much kudos to you for actually noting the fuel consumption though. Most bike reviews completely ignore it. I get that most people looking at this bike aren't buying it for fuel economy and you really made me want to ride one!

Nice balanced review of a rather special bike! Although I wonder how many will actually be sold? It's a bit of an oddity as I reckon a lot of people will think it's really cool & fantasise about owning one but in reality very few will actually take the step of buying one due to it"s extreme nature & high price tag.

Such cheap insurance. I only wish....Converting that price into Canadian dollars, I'm still paying more for my little CBR500R than what Nigel would pay for that Rocket 3, but then insurance is a huge money gouging scam in Canada, so...lol. A quick quote from my current insurance company with the discounts they would give me for my group association and bundling my car would have me at...$1609 CAD, or about 946 GBP. That's actually one of the cheaper quotes for such a big bike I've seen, so I'm actually a bit surprised.

It's a flying brick...I've ridden the 2300...left me with a fear of overcooking on tight corners...hard to change a line with torque steer. Great on freeways though...although my mate got blown away by a Diavel!

Harder is less likely to bottom out if the travel remains unchanged... Its too soft, or has too little travel if it bottoms out on the road...
