Living Big In A Tiny House

Жыл бұрын

This week we visit an incredible cabin which is packed full of rustic charm. From the large ex-telephone polls outside, to the reclaimed timber and brick interior, this cabin’s construction shows a mastery of the art of salvage.
At only 30m2, this cabin packs a real punch! It's cozy, stylish and emanates a strong sense of home. The clever addition of a semi-outdoor bathroom and the large connecting undercover deck completes the home perfectly. This small home has largely been constructed using reclaimed materials making it not only affordable but packed full of character.
The cabin is situated on a 5 acre property which is being established as a micro farm, with a small amount of land for grazing animals, growing vegetables as well as impressive conversation wetland plantings.
We hope you enjoy the tour of this cabin! Louis is a beekeeper and has his own delicious honey brand. You can find out more about that here: mangawhaihoney.co.nz/

As you all know I'm such a huge fan of using reclaimed materials in homes. There's nothing the builds story and character into a home faster than the re-use of materials and this beautiful rustic cabin is a brilliant example of that! We hope you enjoy the tour of this wonderful home. With Love, Bryce & Rasa

This is absolutely another of my favourites. I really like these one-floor houses... future proofing. This is beautifully planned. I love the eco-friendly options and it's a great outcome for 85kUSD (of course factoring in personal work without labor). Thank you Rasa and Bryce. This was amazing. I really like how you've been featuring single -floor houses of late, showing how one could live an environmental-friendly life while also catering to personal preferences and convenience.

L❤VE the front porch! The fact that this couple values land more than house size, used reclaimed materials to build their home and are ‘working the land’, by growing food, etc… makes it one of my favorites. Also, the Jujitsu gym is great! Two of my favorite things: gardens & Martial Arts, right on their property! ❤

This home is so beautifully rustic. I love the fact he used recycled materials, which when one finds them, are a super deal. That porch really makes it look like a regular sized home - I love it! He also has room to add on an addition if he chose to. Living off the land he has, which is gorgeous, is smart. A good way to teach your children. This man and his family are on the right track. Thanks for sharing!

Julia is correct. Items left on open shelves get dirty very quickly, and even more so if you have a fuel stove in the room. Open shelves may look pretty, but they are not practical and create a lot more work for the person who has to clean them.

I love the single floor designs. I've wrecked my foot and ankle so ladders are out completely and even steep stairs give me pause. I really hope to get property soon and subdivide to put 2 tinies. That way my brother (retired Air Force) and I can each have our own home but close enough we can help each other out! Loving the ideas I can check out on these videos!!

yeah, and thanks to the one-floor build all they have to do is take a bit of that HUGE deck, say the part in front of the bathroom, and add some walls to turn it into a proper room for the kid ;-)
@2KChilds
@2KChilds 11 ай бұрын
@@PeyaLunaI was thinking the same except to let the kids have the parents room, since it's open to the rest of the house and you could watch them easily, while putting up a baby gate of sorts, to keep them out of the open cabinets and exposed wood burning stove. Then extend out from the bathroom, down the porch to just before the living room doors. Knock a doorway out into the bathroom, at the foot of the couch by the TV. Then you'd have the bathroom to the right and the master bedroom to the left. Put a nice big picture window to the front, matching the other bedroom. And now you have a master with an ensuite and more than enough room for a large closet. And most importantly, you do not have to bundle up and go outside in the middle of winter just to use a freezing cold restroom. 😱😳

I've reluctantly lived in Upstate NY for the past 28 years, where temperatures range from -20°F in the winter to +95°F (or higher) in the summer. The thought of a separate bathroom just makes me shudder! But in a previous life I spent a few months in NZ and depending on where you are, I guess that could work. Very impressed with the reuse of materials! Thanks for the tour!

Loving the rustic vibe! Using reclaimed materials is always the most rewarding part of building something. I would have put an internal door through to the bathroom and a slow combustion fire place in there too AND once that gorgeous baby starts walking I think they’ll be adding doors to those low open shelves in the kitchen !😜😜

Totally agree with him about spending my money on more land and a small/comfortable size home. I don't want to spend money on heating and cooling rooms that are not used, nor do I want to spend my time cleaning extra large rooms; I want to be outside enjoying the land. Really nice home with all the outdoor space and rooms that flow together plus all the reclaimed material.
