I am a born-and-raised woodworker, sell handmade wood wares at a public market in Seattle, and DO have a collection of wooden kitchen utensils made by friends, and would give anything to work out of a Cotswold stone barn again, as I once did out of Greenfield Village. As Judy Tenuda would say, "it could happen"...

It's funny 'cause sometimes I watch house-tour-videos of celebrities just because I'm curious and they have all those incredible big and expensive houses I would NEVER want to live in and then I watch tiny-house-tours where people present their affordable, little, cozy spaces they build themselves and use 100%. It's so inspiring! One could give me all the money in the world and I would rather build my own tiny home than live in a huge celebrity house.

I am sad/impassioned that there's always a comment saying "oh, but that person had help, that person is on their family land," like that takes away from the accomplishment or the drive to commit to tiny living in the first place. Yes, we all live in communities: families, chosen families, communities by location or vocation or affiliation. No, she didn't build this BY HERSELF: why would she when she has people who want to help her? Why take out our own frustration that we don't have family land, or a builder or carpenter in our network, or the hard-won skills these people do? Accentuate the positive, people! I love that you tell the stories of folks who live tiny for so many different reasons: ecological footprint, want to own their own space, want the challenge of building, engaging their craft(s), or making a "starter home" and have plans for bigger or better or different. Some homes have no laundry, some have no formal dining, some have walk-in closets... The variety is endless, it seems, and the skills involved are always outrageous. All of them are inspiring in different ways. Thank you for your positivity, Bryce, and your excellent work behind the camera, Rasa. I really appreciate that you show us your passion, your heart through these videos.

Naomi B-Y I totally agree with you. Besides, even if she did not have land or wood given to her, the price for renting such a tiny space would be affordable, and trashed raw materials are very easy to find, it always comes down to skills and commitment !

For me, it makes it so much more meaningful that family and friends have contributed - this is how houses used to be raised - by the whole community working together to help the housebuilder. And how special to be able to look at part of your home and say 'that was builty by my friend' or 'that was donated by my cousin'. I loved her collection of spoons, all made by different friends and how it means she can choose 'who to have dinner with' each day.

The issue is land ownership. Land is incredibly expensive in the UK (tiny island, large population, unjust class system). If you’ve got land to put it on then perfect. Most of the rich build these on their premises for “glampung” then charge the equivalent of $150-$250 per night to stay in one. If you want to live off-grid in a small home with little footprint, you either have to strike up a secret deal with a landowner, or play the system and save a substantial amount to buy land and somehow gain permission to reside on it through stringent planning permission laws.

This girl managed to make a Scandinavian house feel warm and cozy with a magical touch. Also, that view is UNREAL. I’ve lived in many places, and farm life is by far the most satisfying for me. It affords the most lovely and simple view. That land hasn’t changed in centuries and it’s just so pure and lovely.

I want to build a tiny house of my own design, and I'm saving up to do that and possibly retire early too. But I also watch designers who work on big houses. They use the term "Builder grade" as a negative connotation - default boring builder standard for houses that's not beautiful. Once a creative-type comes in and designs it really makes a house a home.

@Daniella Thoelen And? Having help isn't a bad thing. She had a lot of say in the design and it sounds like she did a lot of work with help from her family and friends. It sounds like she has a job that uses her hands. She also did a lot of upcycling. It used to be that family and community were very involved in building your home. Sometimes it seems that advancements in technology (I love tech BTW) has come at a cost of interaction with family and community. A lot of people don't have the skills or family/friend help that she does but it doesn't take away the value of having your own home and living affordably. She choose a tiny house over a larger one that she would have needed a large mortgage to buy. I think that speaks highly of her to desire to live smaller and be as economical as she could while building her home. I am happy for anyone who is able to get a home, especially when they do not get a mortgage. I wish I had her opportunities, however, I am not jealous about it. I want to own my own home at a price I can afford, but I don't think badly about those who have gotten theirs. I applaud what she has accomplished in her young life and wish her well.

It’s cute and looks great, it’s a good size, it’s fitting for a single person to live in, lots of clever designs, and I love that she built it herself and has a lot of personal touches that make it homey. This home gives a spacious and relaxing feeling, it is not cluttered, the stairs are disguised as storage in a way I havent seen in other homes, the color scheme is light and complements the wood very well, she doesn't close the space to the bathroom with a curtain, but most interesting, she added STRIPS OF LED LIGHTS along the ceiling line. Very ingenious, it lifts up the ceiling ,it gives the illusion of infinite space. It illuminates the wood on the ceiling beautifully. It is a trick that could work in many homes.
