We also have a very horrible bus and train system! And with our extreme weather that is pretty bad! Also a lot of people who move here from Montreal or Toronto are really amazed at how poorly run our our transit system is compared to larger cities in Ontario! I’ve lived in the city for more than 30 years and when they introduced the light rail things got worse! Many routes are not serviced at specific times and on the weekends service plummets between a half hour to an hour wait time in the local areas! Many, many people who live in Ottawa are not happy with the bus and train system!
@LivingInOttawa
@LivingInOttawa 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Care - for sure the bus system can be super frustrating due to wait times and access. The larger main routes seem to have have reliable service but the smaller lower demand routes tend to suffer. From my understanding they recently changed some of the route maps which further hampered the access and reach of services. As the city continues to expand I can see potential future issues in the coverage of the suburban sprawl. The LRT certainly has had issues since it's launch but the concept and future potential is exciting and obviously needed to take pressure off the bus route system and other traffic areas. Let's hope they can get it running smoother in the near future.

Great information and video quality however it is very evident in your videos that being a real estate agent seems to make you very partial to all the richy rich neighborhoods mentioned. Just making you aware there are many great areas to live let's not forget borders of Cumberland, North Gower and kinburn

Thanks Chris for the comment. Yes I am a real estate agent. And no I am not covering the expensive neighbourhoods only by design. We are actually going to cover close to 70 neighbourhoods when all is said and done. As you can imagine we will need time to do this. We are starting with the most populated and highest demand areas first and then trying to work West to East. There's a lot of ground to cover and research to be had but eventually we will be hitting those spots.

Rather surprised that there is no mention of the world class whitewater scene in and around Ottawa. It is the main reason we are planning to move there from Toronto. I mean, there is whitewater right next to Parliament.

@@LivingInOttawa It's more than a few. It's worth noting that the Ottawa River has a reputation around the globe of being one of the best rivers in the world. It's a Mecca of sorts for the whitewater community. And it is in Ottawa's back yard. From Ottawa, you are a very short drive to at least 5 spectacular canoe tripping rivers.

@@LivingInOttawa Well Rafting is not what draws people in. Apart from people doing rafting tours. It is the kayaking (and to a lesser extent the open boating) hub. Some water features like "Bus Eater" are world famous in their own right with freestyle kayakers. Do yourself a favor and watch some freestyle videos on Bus Eater. Also a little heads up, kayakers and canoeist typically loath having their sports referred to as rafting. Even though almost every raft guide is a kayaker or canoeist. I look forward to you video on it!

Hello Josie! Thanks for reaching out. Hintonburg is a great thriving neighbourhood with many artists but it is gritty which adds to the charm. Almonte is jam packed with artists and it's location along the water with hiking trails is very inspiring! Other spots such as Westboro, Old Ottawa South among others provide some artist community and quick access to other parts of the city. Cheers!

Hi Kati - you can find that although you would be looking at the suburbs and potentially a stacked town style. You may also find on private lanes that carry association fees. To get a little larger or more into freehold properties you would have to consider the smaller towns just outside of Ottawa within a 45 minute drive range of Ottawa.

So can I find a nice 1 bedroom apartment (not basement and not shared) for $1000 per month? month to month rent instead of 12 month contract?
@LivingInOttawa
@LivingInOttawa 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kati. Potentially but it would be on the outskirts of town. 1 bedrooms tend to start around $1200-$1400. You can find studio apartments for that price range. And more landlords will want to rent for the 12 month period and then fall to month to month. Rent demand is very high in Ottawa so Landlords have the choice.

Hello! I’m not completely sure. I know there are many organizations associated to that here in Ottawa but might be best to connect with the career counsellor at Algonquin to get some direction from them. I would also recommend reaching out to people currently working in the industry and have a coffee chat with them (treating them to coffee) so you can pick their brain on ideas and grow your network.
