I have lived in Arizona most of my life and have hiked thousands of miles in these Deserts, over decades, and I only just saw my first rattlesnake in person 2 months ago! A Diamondback... I was way more excited than the average person would be in that situation 😂 Great video!!

I've watched hundreds maybe thousands of videos on snakes. This is one of the best I've seen. Excellent job 👏.

I grew up in Southern California and encountered rattlers throughout my childhood. At first I feared these creatures quite a bit, but slowly grew to respect and even admire their great beauty.

Occasionally YT recommendations come through with a hidden gem, this is 1 of those times. The matter of fact narration is just as good as the footage. My 3 snakes and I approve.

If you cross paths with a rattlesnake, the first thing to do is not panic. Quick, jerky movements make them very nervous and if you hear a rattle, but don’t know precisely where it is, jumping “away” might take you right next to it due to the echoing effect of the canyons they inhabit. Remain calm, remain still until you see where the snake is. Then slowly move away from it. If you stepped on it or directly next to it, you would have already been bitten. They rattle to keep large predators away and they won’t wait until you are too close before they rattle. Be sure to look around carefully in case there are others in the area. While not entirely social, where there is one, there may be more because it is an indication that the area has shelter or available prey. Either way, be cautious.

I'm from AZ as well and I really love this video because it gives people who are not from here and are moving here what to look out for as well as show the beauty of these snakes 🐍

I've been in the S.W. since the end of 2019 & I've seen quite a few. Just recently I was taking my dogs out in the early morning like I always do & wasn't really paying attention to the weird hissing sound. I finally snapped out of it & noticed my dog jump backwards & something almost hitting her. Then I heard the unmistakable sound of the rattle & screamed at my idiot dog for trying to get even with it, and ran. Luckily she's an extremely athletic dog, and the snake had just come out to warm up. Had it been warm already, & had it been my other dog, that would've been a bad start to the day. The only one I haven't seen is the sidewinder.

Arizona has got to be one of the most underrated places to see wildlife in the world. The massive diversity of small and large animals is incredible and the scenery is spectacular, not to mention the plant life.

Loved this! Thanks for opening my world to the speckled rattlesnake. Crazy how they evolve to camouflage with the specific sandstone color of their environment!
