These concession speeches are all terrible. The whole "Sorry we didn't listen"... No, you're sorry that eventually there had to be an election. Not because it was derogatory towards Ireland and the Irish people, but it demonstrated the distain towards Ireland that existed in the Tory party over the past few years. One of the things that made me proud to be British, was the absolutely stellar conduct of the majority of winners and losers from this election. Chief among these course being the speeches from Sunak and Starmer... recognition, respect and reconciliation - both ways. Like when Labour were in opposition and backed the Conservatives on their approach to Ukraine. Unity and solidarity across party lines for a better country and a better world, is something that all parties, in all democracies, should aspire to.
