So refreshing for a Filipino celebrity not being asked about her love life and talk more about important topics like her journey in hollywood, movie, family and mental health. Even so Rachel mentioned they checked Liza's profile and all, for sure they saw Enrique Gil somewhere but never asked about it. More interviews like this. I am now a Liza Soberano fan.

That’s because this is a Western interview. Unlike Western cultures, the Filipino culture is so into romance and is so love-obsessed. The filipino audience love sappy romance and the culture in general puts heavy emphasis on romantic relationship in everything. Why do u think love-teams are so popular and in demand?

Mental health is not talked about much in the Philippines, not just because it's a taboo, but because majority of the population are so busy with surviving. Poverty makes you want to brush off mental health and deal with survival problems first.

Suicidal agad ang mga Tao dito pag mai depression, isang mali na salita na masakit, mag suicide agad.

I am a Filipina born and raised in Hawaii. My Filipino friends and I always joke amongst ourselves that there are 3 emotions in our culture. It is "Guilt, guilt and guilt." Not a healthy mindset to be raised in. I am so happy that Liza broke out of that controlled environment and had the courage to choose her authentic path vs. continuing to do what was comfortable. She is mature for her age and evolved as a result of her own self reflection. Good for her.

There are many beautiful, wise, and strong women in the world. Liza, however, is different. She speaks from the heart and is so real. The funny thing is that I haven't watched a single one of her movies, but I will probably start watching them soon. That girl looked so sweet yet so strong and brave, so naive yet so smart and deep all at once, that's a rare combination that few women can pull off.

I totally agree with Liza.😢 It so hard to be talking about mental health here in the Philippines.. I had a few attempts before. I'm not sure if I had PPD that wasn't addressed after giving birth to my 2nd child then within the same yr my dad died which really made how I feel even worst.. I also experience being taken for granted by my husband ( wanted to end things with him but we have 3 children at that time) I tried to open up how I felt and still feel but most ppl I talk to would be dismissive about it and say "nasa utak mo lng yan.. yang ngang mahihirap dian di naman gnyan at kumakayod lng para mabuhay ." (it's all in your head.. those people who less fortunate doesn't complain about their mental well being they just strive harder to survive)... there are moments that burst out in tears, I feel guilty if I become aggresive towards my children if I can't contain my emotions.. ( not to the point that I become violent though. I just lock myself up in our room sobbing til I shut my eyes ) uugghh.. I wanted to have myself check but like Liza said it's not affordable 😢.. What I usually do is that I would just draw or read or watch masterchef to divert these emotions and thoughts.💔🩷💔

The facade that Liza is talking about actually applies only to actors/actresses in the Philippines. True, mental health clinic is not that common in the Philippines probably because most people here are Christians and we trust God and treat trials or problems are there to strengthen us. Filipinos are sociable and have close family ties and we love music and singing. All of these probably help us overcome our stress and anxiety. Liza is just honest about what she felt when she was an artist in the Philippines. I hope Filipinos will support her like I do. 😊

No, they do not apply only to actors/actresses. I've had a major in Psychology and worked in the corporate setting as a Human Resource professional. It's almost a systemic problem. People just want to present the best version or image of themselves and are too afraid to even be themselves. Even just commenting or saying a joke, blending within a group at work, you'd feel that. It's ingrained in our culture because we were raised in a culture where people just aren't not that authentic, we think too much of what other people will think of us. We think trials and tribulations are there to strengthen us and that we'll do our best to keep it all together, and that it's okay not to talk about it.

Well those are 2 kinds of people: 1. People who think that it's too impossible for a "local homegrown" to get an international project, and; 2. People who were too influenced by Star Magic, her former management. In case you're not familiar, Star Magic trained and launched her into stardom, which was great but she used to be profiled as the perfect girl and was never given challenging roles. When she made a decision to explore other possibilities, the same management who is under the most powerful media company hyped the negativity.

@@ngm6541 I agree. As a Filipino, born and raised, that term actually sounds deregatory. It feels like even Filipinos using this can't even respect their own identity. Americans don't call themselves "Yankees" nor ever heard British people calling themselves "Brits".

I am happy that Liza Soberano is doing really great in her Career and she is in good hands with her New Manager James Reid ..❤ Most important she can save more money Now Unlike before with Ogie Diaz earned 50% as share for Liza'sTalent Fee .. 20% for her P.A and 10% for Star Magic... So out of 100% Liza share is only 20%...

it's unreal how people can make up stories for their biases. Liza was rightfully criticized for coming off as ungrateful with her "rebranding" video. Also, her new management claimed that she was barred from auditioning for Superman by Ogie diaz and ABS CBN. that audition offer was actually never real in the first place. Liza NEVER bothered to correct that. Still, her for mer management and TV network wished her the best and didn't badmouth her. meanwhile, she keeps coming out with these interviews painting herself like a trauma victim when there's none.

I can relate to this so much. When she said "I was hesitant to be honest when I feel bad", it hit home. I grew up in a household where we didn't talk about mental health issues and personal struggles. My dad considered that as complaining or "pag-iinarte". Now that I'm an adult, I have trust issues, I don't know how to process my negative feelings and it's hard to be intimate and open up to someone. 💔

True. Many filipinos are raised to become people pleasers. You always have to put other people's best interests before yourself. Have the mentality that you always have to look tough and strong because others have it worse. It's toxic. It makes you think that what you feel is insignificant. I myself had this realisation recently after going thru mental struggles. Listening to Lisa is always very relaxing and interesting. I love her in podcasts talking abiut serious and real subjects. ❤

I loved Liza since she was started in show business in PH. And I do understand what she is rooting for and loved to watch her grow and expressing herself well now… Go Girl and May God Bless you more! ❤ Sadly, mental health awareness and how to deal with (mental problem) is a struggle in the whole world nowadays (not only in PH), people struggling to open up and feeling that they are alone and misunderstood…unloved. Faith and Love in God and Family’s bond/relationships are sadly fading nowadays in the society. 😔
