Who doesn't love painting animals and who doesn't love a playful otter? They are cheeky and playful and give us a great opportunity to try out all sorts of techniques like colour-value switching, masking, mark making, texturing etc.
In this film, I'll take you through the planning, colour choice and painting. The actual picture took 1.5-2 hours, but I have condensed it down for you. The techniques we use can be applied to any animal or wildlife art.
If you take a look at other films on my channel I have ones about colour-value switching, using cling film etc. I try to do a film each week, so if you subscribe and hit the notification bell you will be told when the next is available.

Not/cold press, Bockingford. And I think 140lb, but it was a while ago, so there is a small chance it was 200lb. I usually say in the film, so sorry if I haven’t.

@@LizChadertonArt Such a joy and inspiration this is. You not only show but also tell your planning, your considerations, make the process understandable in such a way that I can take this to use in any other project, which is just excellent teaching. And again, thank you!

What tool did you use for you masking fluid. I rarely use it because I can't get fine line, though you did. Appreciated your texture techniques.

I often use a silicone colour shaper, but you can use a ruling pen, or even cut the end off a cotton swab and use the stick....

I have thin pointed wood skewer and a drafting inking pen, tried end of cotton swabs. Never heard of silicone colour shaper. Next: how to use. Thanks
