The official video fo "My Skin" by Lizzo from the album 'Big Grrrl Small World'.
This is a summoning of bodies: all shapes, sizes and shades to unite in their pride, and wear their skin like the gift it is.
My Skin literally matters. It matters because it’s the largest organ on my body. Because it’s my exterior. It’s been stretched, sunburnt and covered in glitter. It’s the first thing you notice about me. My skin is dark brown, but if you asked someone they would say it’s black. My blackness is my largest assumed ‘accessory.’ Not my gender, religion or wealth. Because of it, I’ve experienced countless misconceptions from people- neck rolls and gratuitous gestures, overt southern dialects superimposed onto my own voice, perceived “ghetto-ness.” I laugh it off because it’s seemingly harmless, but when we think about where this originates it’s actually poisonous.
Being black in America is a unique experience. All people have a unique American experience, but I can’t speak for all people. I can only speak from my unique experience as a black woman. The “African-American” myths that cloud non-black people's judgment are taken from the worst part of our struggle and paraded as fact. I could write this essay trying to debunk “black-on-black crime” and fill it with pleading persuasive prose, but I’d rather just tell you what I know.

She will prevail. She's a trained musician. cardi b is a trained sex worker. MTS is a trained rapper. Doji Cat is a novelty at worse. All will fade from the music world because none is a trained musician. LIZZO is her generation's ELLA FITZGERALD.

Every day I wake up in my skin, it's covered in scars from having and nursing two children and it's getting older and more wrinkled every day. Rather than looking at it as a mark of pride, surviving accidents, surgery and illness, I hate it. Every pound, every new dimple, every wrinkle. This body that has taken care of me, through tragedy and joy alike, I've never really looked at as more than something I needed to mold, shape and try to cram into an image of someone else's perfection. I just realized how damned stupid I've been. I have a husband who adores me, two grown children that love me and a body that gets up every day and does the work of someone in their twenties when it's in its forties. Maybe it's time I quit cursing my body for what I think of as failures and start learning to love it for taking good care of me.

You're beautiful. You're a walking 'miracle'. Think about what makes a human a human. You're absolutely fantastic just as you are, and there's no one else just like you, and there never will be! At first I ddnt understand the rhythm of the beat but then when I heard the lyrics, the beat connected with me.I Cried😢silently....it just touched me ,not physically but mentally.Self-love is real😻.To all the people out there, never compare yourself with another human being. Some are still seedling from their soil of self-confindence so they can blossom🌻like a sunflower.I'm an 18 year old African Black Girl and I'm one of those people who are seedling to become who they were created to be in life. What I learnt along my journey was 1.never compare your own portrait(face;beauty)with another because we were painted by the same portraiture(parent) of the earth. 2.Every scapture (body shape🐒)has it's imperfection of being unique. .3.Never depend on someone else's love.Learn to love yourself first so tht whoever comes in your way an tries to mess your life;you already know your worth without adding a tag price. .👅❤.#vivatoselflove.✊

agreed. i used to be insecure. i thought i should be ashamed of my size. but ive always been big. its counter productive to hate yourself when if i had just enjoyed my child hood maybe i would have stuck to the sports i loved and grown out of this. I also realized that everyone has insecurities and no one is focused on me. People who r thin wish they were curvy, ppl with pale skin wish they were caramel. cute ppl want to be sexy and sexy ppl want to be cute. etc. we need to leearn to see the beauty in ourselves if we want happiness and change. whoopi goldberg is beautiful. i love her face and smile. everyone knows her. but shes not a classic beauty. u dont have to have a certain jawline or waist line or iq or car to be inspiring, talented, kind or valuable.

I have tiger stripes (stretch marks) and unneeded fat because of my overeating from depression. Now just listening to this song really gets me in my feeling but Lizzo is preaching that no matter how you look you are beautiful. Lizzo is my inspiration and I wish I knew about her before Truth Hurts.

I can not stop watching this and feeling so empowered. I am 48, early menopause, average to look at but amazing inside where it counts.I’m tall, built like a brick shit house, 3 stone over weight but I’m also Strong, intelligent, I’m fit, loads of fun loyal and a woman, and I can dance god dammit, here’s to real women everywhere. Dump the filters, live your life and be fabulous whatever your size, age, skin colour. Let’s embrace our differences rather than grating them like flaws. Women everywhere, be you, just be you!!!!!! We are perfect as we are. Say no to the relentless social media bollocks and say hello to life without limits. We are more than what we look like. We can be beautiful and talented beyond belief like lizzo without being air brushed. Who’s with me??????

To all the people who say she is supporting an unhealthy lifestyle like a person in the comments who I just responded to, here's my response: You mentioned fat and health problems. Most individuals who are overweight are that way because of depression, anxiety and a need to cope. Not to mention poor eating habits that are pushed by the media industry and also don't forget the economic factor where unhealthy non-organic is much cheaper and most people are living check to check. I am inspired by her music because it is uplifting it is necessary. Acceptance of self is the most important thing anyone could have especially in a climate where people who are obese are discriminated against and treated less than. Her angle right now is empowerment. If she can do that and inspire then that will lead to acceptance and most importantly self love which will include treating yourself better on all levels including health wise. This is coming from someone such as myself who didn't know Lizzo until her Bet awards ceremony and has been vegan for 3 years, up until a month ago because of double knee injuries by way of leg presses was working out daily and guess what I wasn't able to lose much weight. You know why because of a thyroid disorder. So I say that to say it is easy to judge when you are not living that life. It is easy to judge when you aren't discriminated against and let me also add i do not have diabetes, a heart disease, hypertension or any other medical condition you would associate with one who is obese. I hope you gained some insight. One love.

I hate some of these comments. She isn't promoting what's unhealthy, but only promoting loving yourself. You guys think she hasn't tried diets, fads, anything she can do lose this weight? That's such a ridiculous come back. Loving yourself means taking care, whether or not it means that losing weight for your health is part of it. But that doesn't cancel out loving yourself if you are thick, thin, anything. Truly accepting yourself for who you are. Doing things to improve yourself. Being there for yourself. That's what she's talking about y'all
