He threw Master P. on after the original was released and the consensus was that LL had the weakest verse on his own track. All of them were up and coming acts at Def Jam. (Yes, Method Man and Redman were veterans in the industry both with several bodies of work under their belts long before this track… but they were newly presented on the scene together as an official duo). Then Canibus and DMX were both newly signed to Def Jam and definitely being promoted as the future. The most interesting thing about those two at the time was the fact that they had the biggest buzz out of everybody on a track with legends and icons, but neither of them had a project out yet. They got their buzz from verses on other tracks…TDef Jam signed them and started taking them to radio stations across the country doing freestyles… Then Def Jam recorded those and released the freestyles as mixtapes. It was Canibus, DMX, and NORE (who never wanted to go solo but ended up being forced into it when his partner Capone got locked up just when CNN: War Report dropped.

Exactly. Canibus was the ultimate force to be reckoned with for LL. So he naturally went into GOAT mode & sailed in on him. Canibus still the man though. Both of these dude are the best at their craft. 💎
