Leptomeningeal disease (also known as LMD, leptomeningeal metastases, or LM) is cancer in your cerebrospinal fluid and in your leptomeninges, the membranes that surround your brain and spinal cord. It happens when an advanced cancer spreads from part of your body to your cerebrospinal fluid and leptomeninges.

I have a question that I don't know where to ask for information and found this one. I am doing research on Janis Joplin and I was looking at her autopsy online and came across something that puzzled me. In her autopsy, the ME recorded that she had "leptomeninges is moderately congested". It did not say mildly or minimally, it said moderately. I would like to know how this would affect her life. To me, it seemed very serious, but as I am not anything medically knowledgeable, how serious could it have been for her? If the question is inappropriate for here, I apologize.
